Irrational hatred of people who have the same name as you

As I mentioned on the IA thread, I get a lot of mail these days intended for people who share my name.

I got in first with myfirstnamemylastnameATgmail.com. They thought they were tricky by giving out myfirstname.mylastnameATgmail.com to everyone. That period doesn't do anything, you know.

Anyway, here are a few.

Hello,

This email to inform you that we received your registration form and payment for the upcoming Lifeguard Training course at ASRC. More information to follow via email as the first class date approaches.

Thank you for choosing ASRC.

Good Morning:

I thought it wise to copy you with the attached agenda so you won’t be “blindsided” when I call on you at the meeting.

Joan, as with last year’s meeting, will you have the Treasures Reports to hand out? (If you do I’ll be happy to make copies for you.)

Jacque just give a verbal report on the last Board meeting we had.

[pplains] I will ask for an update on the Drainage Problems caused by the Morning Side Construction.

Committee Reports: I will give each Committee an opportunity to report.

David & [pplains] before calling for a vote on Amendments to the BYLAWS I’ll give you the floor to explain & answer questions.

Since I haven’t heard back on nominations from the nomination committee, I will open the floor to discussion & nominations. I will ask all those listed on the Proxy Vote if they are elected to the board, would they be willing to serve? Then I will call for a vote.

Should there be any additions or suggestions, please let me know by next weekend.

Thanks,

Dick

sounds like an opportunity to steal someone's life and live two at once.

i work on x informed by y and someone with my name does y informed by x. i've been mistaken for him a couple of times, i doubt that i'm known enough for the opposite to have happened. i don't mind, it makes me seem more interesting and productive than i actually am.

It's a little strange, I go by Tre Baker in 98% of my dealings, but it's just a nickname I've had since I was two weeks old. While Tre Baker looks a little modern (if you google it, you'll likely find a Harvard grad who writes for dangerousnegro.com before coming across pictures of Bobby Petrino associated with the sports site I work for), my real name is much more conservative and old-fashioned. (it was my grandfather's, hence why I'm a Tre).

So every once in awhile I get these Kappa Alpha Psi invitations to go skiing on a reunion weekend addressed to the other Tre Baker and then get some crazy Tea Party missive addressed to my real name's address. Kind of a weird feeling, how these other people are traipsing through life with my name like that.

I have an irrational hate of people who think they have the same gmail address as me. So much shit is people signing up for crap and using my email.

Jeff, Saturday, 19 May 2012 16:33 (eleven years ago) link

I have the exact same issue as pplains, but I feel my name is even more common.

When I sign up for a new online service and enter "aimless" as my sign-on, I am always pissed-off when it has already been taken and I have to adulterate the purity of my sign on handle. wtf, false aimlesses, you were never me.

I briefly dated a Lee, spent three weekends together before breaking it off. Mainly because we just saw things too differently to be a viable couple, but it would have felt really strange having a girlfriend with the same name as me.

Jeff otm, I have a folder with over 500 mails called "Farrells", from various people who think they have my email address. Most of them are harmless and quite apologetic - Annas and Amandas and Aarons, oh my. Highlights in ascending order are

. Someone who has used my email address for Redbox, which I guess is an automated video library in convenience stores? This one is in a 7-11 in Washington, and it's kind of interesting to get a random report on someone's impulse-rentals

. Anthony Farrell, affarr✧✧✧@gm✧✧✧.c✧✧, who is a senior member of the Institute of Structural Engineers, Caribbean Branch. He seems to be doing well, a lot of the mails are serious contractors and investors mailing him about serious things. The conference he arranged last year with my email address on the pdf application form was a bit rough for both of us, though.

. And then there's the Farrells who included me in their round emails after the matriarch of the family had died, and the estate needed settling. I corrected the sender, but by that time other people had responded and I had to email them, and jesus none of that was fun.
