Fight For Your Right was never my favorite off of that record. I know I'm sorta gonna regret not picking more than 2 LTI songs for my ballot, but I did what I could do with 20 spots.

how's life, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

fight for your right, sweet home alabama and satisfaction are all awesome. whole lotta love is a steaming POS

it's smdh time in America (will), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

And yes, I can come out the other side on that, too. For a long time, I stayed away from Taxi Driver--there was one time where I'd just seen it too many times. About five years later, it was like seeing it for the first time all over again. That happens too.

Contenderizer: that's one way to approach a list, but it's not the only way. I'd never list anything I didn't want to hear or watch right now. I'm trying to achieve some kind of 10- or 20-year mean. Other people do it your way.

shame shame shame on anyone who slighted "fight for your right" just because it happened to be hugely popular a quarter century ago

You know, you're constantly complaining about people not understanding you--that's in now way what I said! I'm not punishing the song...

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't slight it because it was popular, I slighted it because it doesn't do anything for me anymore. That it was popular just means I still hear it even though I'd rather not.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

"not trying to achieve..." I meant to write.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago) link

I'm exactly where EZ Snappin on this. It seems so simple.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago) link

fair enough, but i was mostly kidding. i'm sure we all have enough to be ashamed of even before we figure in the beastie boys ballots.

anyway this is my jam

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:18 (twelve years ago) link

This one I'm bummed I cut so thanks to all who voted for it.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

xp Of course there's no correct answer. I just don't have that response to songs. In various polls I've placed songs like Waterloo Sunset or Enjoy the Silence high because it doesn't matter how many times I hear them they're still great. I only get tired of a song if (like Satisfaction) I didn't truly love it in the first place. I've worn out songs at certain times but they've always bounced back. I'm amazed that so many people consider something as good as Fight For Your Right played out. When the feds take away the right to party I'll know who to blame.

No one's calling it played out! We just don't like it anymore. It happens.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

The Superfly groove, the Psycho strings...all of it is just a grooveathon and I freaking love it

xpost well you're wrong and one day you'll realize what you've done and the party will be long gone and it'll be all your fault

I only get tired of a song if (like Satisfaction) I didn't truly love it in the first place.

Last thing I'll say, I've sidetracked this enough already. I can think of many, many songs I once loved that I got tired of. I do not, for a second, start wondering if that means I never loved them in the first place. Of course I did.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:23 (twelve years ago) link

Egg Man - wow, I'd never read the words before. I just blabbered along in ignorance. Magnificent.

xp great work again nate

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:32 (twelve years ago) link

Shame, shame, shame--I cast thee out!

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:34 (twelve years ago) link

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:35 (twelve years ago) link

with vg on "hold it". it's okay, but not one my LTI favorites.

Hold It Now is great. In my top 10.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:36 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't vote for it either. I was making a point, but I've already forgotten what it was.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:37 (twelve years ago) link

Hold It Now is great. In my top 10.

it is great, don't get me wrong. if was gonna vote for 10 songs off LTI, it would totally be #8.

I could've happily put all of LTI on my ballot

"Hold It Now, Hit It" is my second favorite LTI track.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:41 (twelve years ago) link

what's your favorite?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:42 (twelve years ago) link

"Rhymin' And Stealin'"

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:43 (twelve years ago) link

nice

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:43 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't vote for Hold It, tho I get the appeal. Paul Revere placed the highest from LTI for me

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:44 (twelve years ago) link

Rhymin has to be in my top 5 of all-time awesome album openers --- and one of my LTI faves

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:44 (twelve years ago) link

I'd heard "Fight For Your Right" but when I got the album and the Levee drums kicked in I was all WHOA.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:49 (twelve years ago) link

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:53 (twelve years ago) link

I actually like Fight for Your Right more now than I did when it came out, but I really didn't like it when it came out. Took me hearing more of the album to decide they weren't no-talent jerks.

"Brass Monkey" otoh was in my top 5. On the soundtrack to countless college parties.
