Jimmy Johns actually came by the library today and dropped off like 15 free mini-sandwiches for some strange reason. As a thank you for being awesome I guess. Anyway, so yay Jimmy Johns.

Sucks. Can't they irridiate them?

What we need more of is irradiation.

Congrats, aj. That act of kindness must have sapped my local JJ's goodness today.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link

I actually told them "if any of your jimmy johns comrades serve a man named Jesse K*** today, make sure to give him horrible service and food"

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

See, that's the kind of personalized service I expect from them.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

I really liked Jimmy John's for a long time. Okay, "really liked" is an overstatement, but I would sometimes buy sandwiches from there on purpose when I had other options, because I specifically wanted a sandwich from Jimmy John's. But it's like there's a Jimmy John's punchcard in my heart, and they used up all their punches, because about three months ago I was just like... nope. I no longer like Jimmy John's.

potbelly>>>jimmy johns

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:53 (eleven years ago) link

JVC, I was trying to make a joke. It was a dumb joke. I hope you didn't think I was being rude to you.

Nope, figured thats what it was.

I cannot eat Jimmy John's. I've always avoided them, ever since that stuff came out about the owners being racist, but then I ended up there during a quick break during a meeting and managed to get food poisoning. Now even seeing their logo makes me midly ill.

I feel confident that my opinions on major fast food sandwich chains are well documented in previous threads, but I hate Potbelly. Hate. From the second I walk in and somebody wants me to yell my order across the restaurant to the first bite of that nasty, dry breadstuff they use for their sandwiches, the whole experience is dire.

I will always hate Subway the most, though.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

Sara joins you in your hatred of potbelly. I seriously find their tuna sandwiches nigh-addictive.

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

Potbellys not that bad, if only because they often have warm, freshly baked cookies that are infinitely preferable to those shitty coasters Subway passes off as cookies. Also, malts.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:04 (eleven years ago) link

For some reason I really like Potbellys' mustard.

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

I've never had Potbelly cookies but their milkshakes are good.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:24 (eleven years ago) link

I love JJ's bread. I didn't know about the racism. Potbelly is also good.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

I think it was mostly rumor I'd heard about the racist stuff, but then a couple years ago there was a whole series of articles about Jimmy John's donating money to the campaigns of the suppoters of Arizona's batshit racial profiling law.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

I've consistently been disappointed in JJ's.

Jeff, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

The last time I went to Jimmy Johns, I walked out during ordering. They're like, "What kind of bread do you prefer? The whole loaf or the large?" I didn't want to go into carb shock.

I have read more of The Countess and I misspoke about it's grossness. It's not that gross. There are a couple of gross parts, but given how that book could have gone, it's pretty tame.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:45 (eleven years ago) link

Speaking of books, I needed to take a hilarious screenshot of my Facebook feed a few days ago, but I forgot. One of my friends from college was posting the most hilarious lines from that 50 Shades of Grey book, but in between were status updates from my aunt and a family friend both enthusing about how fantastic the book was.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:49 (eleven years ago) link

there's this comix podcast I listen to and a couple of weeks ago they spent about 20 minutes just doing a (relatively) straight reading of a scene from fifty shades of grey. It was among the funniest things I've ever heard in my entire life.

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

I think I need to hear that. Just reading the lines in print was sending me into fits of laughter.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:53 (eleven years ago) link

Kenan what are you talking about?

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:56 (eleven years ago) link

Too damn much bread is what I'm talking about!

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

Jon here's a link to the podcast, if you want to check it out:

http://theinkpanthers.mikedawsoncomics.com/episode-129-50-shades-of-grey/

It is a vaguely embarrassing fact that The Ink Panthers is my favorite podcast.

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:03 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks for the link!

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:04 (eleven years ago) link

I think it is demonstrably more embarrassing that I enjoy a Kevin Smith podcast, so don't sweat it.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:05 (eleven years ago) link

I still don't understand why Kenan walked out while ordering a Jimmy John's sandwich. Because they were going to put it on... bread?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

A whole loaf of bread?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

Aw goddamnit. Don't make me explain a joke. There's nothing more tedious, for everyone involved. Just let it go.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

I didn't know there was a joke.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

Alright, you guys love bread and I don't. I see how it is.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

brag brag

caro's johnson (Eazy), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:04 (eleven years ago) link

Only beef I have with Jimmy Johns is that I get the Slim 2 (roast beef, bread, that's it) and it's priced a bit high for just that.

caro's johnson (Eazy), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:06 (eleven years ago) link

Nice write up, E!

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:31 (eleven years ago) link

I hate sandwich shops altogether. They push giant cheap loaves of bread wrapped sloppily around shitty pieces of meat and TONS AND TONS OF MAYONNAISE if you don't say say out loud, "STOP putting mayonnaise on that!" It's crazy. It's like they can skimp on every other ingredient as long as they put a whole ass-crack load of oily mayonnaise on every sandwich. It's truly disgusting. It's the worst food yet invented by someone other than the evil Queen in Snow White.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:53 (eleven years ago) link

Wow, nice, EZ!

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:00 (eleven years ago) link

FYI Potbelly doesn't put anything on your sandwich without asking 1st. I always get mustard and not mayo.

Also, that article is awesome Eazy. Congrats!

Did anyone else see tHe sunset tonight? I've never seen another like it. I took this shitty iPhone pic, which is not worth more than a vague description

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:02 (eleven years ago) link

Whoa. Well done.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:04 (eleven years ago) link

Gah, that picture is shit.

The western sky was black except at the horizon where the sun was blazing as seen in the pic, but sheets of rain obscured the glow, and big white lightning arced amid the black and red clouds. Just amazing.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:07 (eleven years ago) link

jesse that picture is amazing. it looks like an a-bomb is going off.

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:09 (eleven years ago) link

thanks. i'm happy with it as a snapshot, but there was actually blue-white lighting in the shot. and the contrast between the black, black clouds and the terrifying sunset isn't there. at least you can see a little bit of the sheets of rain.

i have a point and shoot Canon camera, but for the life o' me that would have been way better, i can't find the damn charger.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

I never eat at subway/jimmy johns downtown because I'm always close to a Hannah's, which is infinitely better.

Jeff, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

oops - see if you can spot the mistake in that last sentence

everyone should go to Z&H in hyde park for a sandwich sometime, I'm sure I've evangelized for them before

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:20 (eleven years ago) link

also I saw that sunset while leaving the laundromat and grocery store, and with the added lightning it was awesome indeed
