Pretty sharp marketing. Brings a bit more urgency to the voting. Plus they streamed an album a day ahead of the public vote which is pretty good exposure for all concerned.

If the awards were based on artwork then Bwani Junction would have to get the wooden spoon. "Ok guys, so like, the album is called 'Fully Cocked', so get this - we'll put a COCK on the cover. No, not that kind of cock..."

That 6th Borough Project is a shameless and rather shoddy Ghost Box rip-off and the Twin Atlantic cover is just a bunch of shit.

Best covers are easily Rustie and RememberRemember.

Went for the Conquering Animal Sound album, but there's quite a few good albums on the list. Seems like being (long)shortlisted has at least meant that the Happy Particles album has made it to CD, spotted copies in HMV.

Yeah, the Happy Particles album was pushed into a much-needed physical release because of their being nominated.

The final shortlist of ten was announced this morning and is as follows...

King Creosote & Jon Hopkins 'Diamond Mine'
Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat 'Everything's Getting Older'
Mungo's Hi Fi 'Forward Ever'
Twin Atlantic 'Free'
Rustie 'Glass Swords'
Mogwai 'Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will'
Conquering Animal Sound 'Kammerspiel'
Tommy Smith 'Karma'
Remember Remember 'The Quickening'
Happy Particles 'Under Sleeping Waves'

Apparently there were 9000 votes in the 24 hour long public voting period, which was won by Twin Atlantic.

I kinda feel that this is the obvious shortlist drawn from what was available? Still, it's good to be reminded what talents sit on our doorstep.

really surprised at Twin Atlantic fans being the sort of noodlebrained lemmings who egg each other on to vote en masse for an ultimately pointless award that they're never going to actually win

I was expecting King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, if anything.

Wells & Moffat was my favourite album of last year, so I can be happy with the result, even if I personally would rather have seen the award go to Happy Particles.

Not my favourite Wells record, but it's cool he's getting his dues. And I'm glad it was that insipid and overrated King Creosote/Jon Hopkins album. There, I said it. I shall now be chased out of Scotland by irate Fifers.
