The GAGA/WAKA thing is nice, especially the Paparazzi remix, like Irresistible Force, Lady Gaga, a John Hughes film, blissed out: here

2 weeks pass...

these guys are fun live, too

max, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:51 (11 months ago) Permalink

I'm a fan! Kinda bummed that I missed their previous shows in mpls, although I remember reading an interview or something with one of the guys in EG where he claimed lots of people hated them live, so maybe they've changed/improved their live show recently? I hope they do more shows here before they inevitably move to NYC as all bands that "make it" apparently must do

originally they were gonna do this funny elite gymnastics karaoke thing (complete with squaresoft style title screen) but the guy tripped over the cable so they just had a bunch of strobes and they gave out flowers, i dug it

max, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:21 (11 months ago) Permalink

i still need to investigate these guy more, and like dan i'm finding out about them after they've done a spate of local shows.

i have zero idea what scene these guys are connected to here. there is a small waved-out + frankendance scene here, and i'm pretty sure i recognize one of the dudes from knocking into me on the floor at one of those events

Pitchfork: What's the music scene like in Minneapolis?

JB: There isn't a scene. I feel like we wouldn't really fit in wherever we lived. We're just really weird people interested in really weird things. We have cats and girlfriends and sometimes we like to go to this torta place because they make really good tortas. As far as we're concerned, our musical home is the internet-- our points of view, lyrical style, and writing style all come from there.

on saturday they introduced a song "this song is about andrea dworkin the most important person who has ever lived"

they have a mix called "I Want a 38-Minute Truce During Which There Is No Rape mix" after the dworkin speech

max, Monday, 4 June 2012 22:03 (11 months ago) Permalink

another song they said "that song was about the male gaze. this next song is about how people who smoke cigarettes are fucking retarded."

max, Monday, 4 June 2012 22:04 (11 months ago) Permalink

wow these guys seem really cool

goole, Monday, 4 June 2012 22:21 (11 months ago) Permalink

hahaha i thought they seemed pretty cool. they handed out flowers. the big one was wearing a hospital gown

max, Monday, 4 June 2012 22:30 (11 months ago) Permalink

I read the title of this thread as having something to with quiddities and agonies of the ruling class.

this guy's a gangsta? his real name's mittens. (Hurting 2), Monday, 4 June 2012 23:23 (11 months ago) Permalink

gymnastics is an exurban pursuit surely

goole, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 01:40 (11 months ago) Permalink

The first thing I heard from them was ALL WE FUCKING CARE ABOUT IS KPOP WHITEHOUSE AND OUR CATS which is basically a K-pop mixtape. I really like their democratic approach to influences. I guess its kind of a played out aesthetic ("post-internet" or whatever)but they bring a personal touch that I really like.

I thought this was a really bad mixtape fwiw but maybe I will listen to some of these youtubes so that I can have an opinion about this hot new internet badn

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 20:46 (9 months ago) Permalink

Fuck real life.

Dan I., Wednesday, 15 August 2012 22:28 (9 months ago) Permalink

Their visual aesthetic was one of the best things about them, and I guess the guy that left was responsible mostly for the visuals and very little for the music. That seems like something I've heard of other bands doing (having a visual artist who does all the album covers and other visual stuff and who is considered a full member of the band), but I can't think of any other examples right now. It would probably be insulting to compare it to Bez, but maybe kind of like a Terry Gilliam in Monty Python thing?

Dan I., Wednesday, 15 August 2012 22:40 (9 months ago) Permalink

Errr.. drawing analogies to Terry Gilliam might be stretching. As much as I hate to admit it, they definitely have struck me as a Tumblr band, if that's how you're reading the visual aesthetic.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 16 August 2012 20:51 (9 months ago) Permalink

He wasn't comparing their styles...

Number None, Thursday, 16 August 2012 20:54 (9 months ago) Permalink
