also they're selling every album spread across 5 tapes for 20 bucks at shows, worthwhile investment imo

Argh! I just looked this up and they were selling the bundle of tapes from Burger Records, but they're all gone.

If I was blown away on first listen by the record w/ White Fence, what Segall should I check out next?

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

Melted and Lemons are my personal favs.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

yeah, melted's p rad.

It was you. Miming to Tenacious D. (stevie), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:37 (1 year ago) Permalink

Melted was indeed rad. Cheers!

If you liked "Hair," you should also get the S/T LP by Mikal Cronin, who is in Ty Segall's band - that album rules.

Walter Galt, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:21 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yep that Cronin lp from last year is superb. Anybody heard Slaughterhouse yet? I think it comes out next month.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:36 (1 year ago) Permalink

hair is awesome, they started the set with WF dudes & played a few songs off of it (the first two iirc) so 70's though after they got off stage & ty segall band was on it a noticeable blast step back to the 60's

the men live show i saw was pretty boring tho

flopson, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

I've never seen em. They are on first so I'm not sure if I'll get there in time anyway.

hoping they have the Hair LP on sale at the show, I'll probably buy it

dmr, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:57 (1 year ago) Permalink

Really enjoying "Hair" despite not being keen on Ty Segall's previous work. This LP is nothing new but it works really well. Not sure where to start with White Fence but I should check some of his stuff out

gouty ted, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:43 (1 year ago) Permalink

Shit, I thought the Men were FANTASTIC when I saw them a couple of months ago! They had a great female bassist with them then who I don't think is in the band anymore. But they were totally ferocious; the drummer's a monster.

Walter Galt, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

bassist when i saw them was just some douchey looking guy with a haircut

flopson, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:32 (1 year ago) Permalink

best show I have seen in aaaaaaages

missed the Men. Strange Boys were boring. White Fence was good. Ty Segall fucking RIPPED. seriously awesome.

dmr, Thursday, 17 May 2012 15:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

he came out with White Fence to do Long Black Curtain but I think that was the only song they did off "Hair." other than that they each had separate sets.

one of Ty Segall's encores was a cover of Gimme Some Money by the Thamesmen, from Spinal Tap. lolol.

all the stuff from Melted sounded incredible. Girlfriend and Finger were probably my favorites of the set.

dmr, Thursday, 17 May 2012 15:48 (1 year ago) Permalink

:-D

flopson, Thursday, 17 May 2012 16:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

Ty Segall was great. Missed everything else due to a transport fail but this felt like a christening. Crowd going nuts. Big, crowded NY room. He's on his waaaaay!

also lol @ this upthread:

guy with a haircut

^everyone has a haircut^

yep. people I was with (people who see way too many shows) were like, "this show felt 'important' in a way most shows don't."

from the stage he said it was the best show they ever played

dmr, Friday, 18 May 2012 20:26 (1 year ago) Permalink

it's crazy how much better his live show has gotten since just last summer

flopson, Friday, 18 May 2012 20:31 (1 year ago) Permalink

uh that's Long White Curtain and it's on White Fence Family Perfume. department of self corrections.

I know they did some of the joint tracks but I don't have that record yet. so I dunno.

i guess i need to see him sometime soon then, cuz he was putting on great shows a couple years back, but i haven't seen him in a while

1 month passes...

I'm starting to think the Ty Segall Band's "Slaughterhouse" is Segall's best album yet.

Agree? Disagree?

Unsure? Then hear it (thanks Whiney): http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-ty-segall-bands-gnarly-full-slaughterhouse

Shit shit shi; I really want to stream this, but every time I click on the link (or any link to Spin's website), I get redirected to the Spin homepage. Does anybody know how to work around this?

Evan R, Monday, 25 June 2012 18:52 (10 months ago) Permalink

After a few spins I think it is equal to his best albums which is high praise. Although Tell Me What's Inside Your Heart and Wave Goodbye sound like two of his best ever songs. I will probably have changed my mind by next week and consider it his best album!

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:09 (10 months ago) Permalink

same thing happens to me but if you are using firefox apparently it works better on different browsers, also if you follow links within spin website rather than going straight fom external link you won't get constantly redirected i think

damn, slaughterhouse rocks! this dude is going to be huge, isn't he?

tylerw, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:53 (10 months ago) Permalink

I don't think dudes get to be huge anymore.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:55 (10 months ago) Permalink

my waistline begs to differ. slaughterhouse is amazing though.

I'm starting to think the Ty Segall Band's "Slaughterhouse" is Segall's best album yet.

still think "Melted" is the best but that was pretty awesome (just listened to the Spin stream)

I wanted to buy "Hair" yesterday but Other Music didn't have it

dmr, Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:22 (10 months ago) Permalink

I'd love to see this dude blow up, I think he should at least be able to get to Jay Reatard levels. Which isn't huge huge, but not too shabby for a garage rock dude.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:43 (10 months ago) Permalink

kind of surprised he isn't there yet, tbh

jay reatard levels?

the late great, Thursday, 28 June 2012 23:51 (10 months ago) Permalink

so expensive though! Drag City's prices are kind of outrageous nowadays. and no download code. is "Drag City Green Label" supposed to be some premium-quality pressing or something?

(DC not having anything on Spotify does make me buy more of their records overall, I will admit.)

dmr, Monday, 18 March 2013 17:53 (2 months ago) Permalink

best thing he did is srill the collabration with White Fence (hair) imo

nostormo, Monday, 18 March 2013 20:12 (2 months ago) Permalink

also, sadly, at this point i don't think he got something new to offer.
maybe it's because of the over excessive releases lately

nostormo, Monday, 18 March 2013 20:20 (2 months ago) Permalink

disagree ... it's a lot of records but all three of his 2012 releases hit the spot for me (and all were pretty different from each other)

dmr, Monday, 18 March 2013 20:44 (2 months ago) Permalink

sort of different. all quality tho.

How's the singles collection?

the late great, Monday, 18 March 2013 20:58 (2 months ago) Permalink

the singles collection is great, but if you've only heard stuff from Goodbye Bread on, be prepared for a significantly lower-fi experience. i think you could construct a fantastic 45-minute record our of his three major 2012 releases and it would be an all-time classic.

i kant believe it's not buffon (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 18 March 2013 21:00 (2 months ago) Permalink

i wouldn't go as far as "all time classic", but it will be great.

nostormo, Monday, 18 March 2013 21:07 (2 months ago) Permalink

i could kill you if you weren't ready for it!

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 March 2013 21:09 (2 months ago) Permalink

nostormo, Monday, 18 March 2013 21:12 (2 months ago) Permalink

lol sorry, "all time classic" as far as Ty's catalog goes.

which tracks would you pick? I like him in theory but can never make it very far through one of his records. Finger is the only song of his that ever really stuck in my head. I think White Fence, Oh Sees, Fresh & Onlys are all a lot better but maybe I just haven't found a way into his catalog.

wk, Monday, 18 March 2013 22:43 (2 months ago) Permalink

just off the top of my head:

from slaughterhouse - the tongue, wave goodbye, tell me what's inside your heart
from hair - i am not a game, time, easy ryder
from twins - would you be my love, thank god for the sinners, love fuzz, you're the doctor

dmr, Monday, 18 March 2013 22:58 (2 months ago) Permalink

the more I think about it Twins is probably the best front to back out of these. it's easier to pick the winners and losers off Slaughterhouse.

dmr, Monday, 18 March 2013 23:01 (2 months ago) Permalink

and ... i just saw a new one in the store?!

the late great, Monday, 18 March 2013 23:02 (2 months ago) Permalink

Pretty sure that's a re-issue of his collab album with Mikal Cronin (which is pre the three everyone's talking about)
