OK, anyone else voting Cave? I put that on my ballot last year, but if it might place this year, I'll go ahead and rank it.

METAL?

damn quiet village "pillow talk" is like from 2005/6 right?

The noms in question had to have had a fairly significant release (or re-release) in 2008.

fair enough

ilm rolling metal thread has a liberal interpretation of what is metal. Look at the noms list and see (voting ends in less than 24 hours btw)

I am bummed that I missed the nominations - the lack of Je Suis Animal on the thread means I'm struggling for my 20th album. Bah.

This should definitely place on the singles list:

Also, if you replace Juan Maclean with Kathleen Edwards, I'll vote for Lust Lust Lust. (Cause I was debating voting for it anyway.)

Matt, what's that Raveonettes album you're voting for? Isn't it called Lust Lust Lust?

i wanted to vote for lust lust lust, but itunes said it was 2007!

the one i voted for is an itunes only EP that came out about a month ago...they also did another one called "wishing you a rave christmas" that is great as well....

but basically beauty dies is great, def in the vein of lust lust lust if a little more cocteau twins-ish

ie: BANGING (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 15 January 2009 19:51 (fifteen years ago) link

btw here's nomo live, they didn't seem to get much love on ILM and i was suprised, awesome afrobeat type stuff....they are a little weirder/more krautrock on the album, live is much more of a party vibe like this:

***I WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO VOTE FOR THE SONG "START SOMETHING" BY MORTEN SORENSEN***

here's what RA had to say about it (and you know you love RA):

When he's done with his day job as one-half of the mega-successful dance act Groove Armada, Tom Findlay sits down and indulges his underground jones as Sugardaddy for Tirk Records. Here, on the mysterious Morten Sorensen's debut EP for the label, you can also hear his smooth hand behind the boards.

I say mysterious not simply because this is Sorensen’s (very) accomplished first 12-inch. But more because his bio reads like a ridiculous Maurice Fulton-esque joke. Chalk it up to my heightened sense of suspicion when it comes things like this, but see if you agree: "Hailing from a small mackerel fishing village in southern Norway, 22-year old Morten Sorensen enjoyed a ten year spell spent in New York whilst his dad worked for the UN’s international maritime commission developing a love of dusty old NY disco that was to irrevocably shape his future."

Bottom line, though? The music's good. The EP's title track rescues a Chic sample from the shelf of almost any disco lover and throws a shriek, synth and bassline underneath. Deep and epic, the track is a seamless cut-and-paste.

Goddamn illiteracy! I somehow missed Fucked Up and Nomo on the nom list (they woulda easily bumped the last two albums—Grails and Mae Shi—from my list).

That Nomo album is the third solid one from them, but I wish they didn't seem so conservative on their records. They're fucking awesome live, and skronk out a lot more. I mean, I give 'em points for making a third album that's just, like, good-to-great the whole way through, but I wants more!

And seriously, that Vampire Hands album is pretty damn fine. I really want more people to hear it. I found it through Hegelson up there, and have been loving it nearly the whole year now.

Part of the fun of these polls is the slow reveal of the results, and if everyone posts their ballots, some OCD internerds will do the maths and work out what has won, killing the suspense (this has happened before). Why not keep this thread for PIMPIN' TRAX, and people can post their ballots when the results are in, should they wish?

Also, Get Myself Together is indeed great, and there's a nice Todd Terje edit of Glad To Know You on the B-side (which bizarrely I heard playing in Dudley's Pancake House near Finsbury Park - is it on a comp or something?). I'll check out that MORTEN SORENSEN song, too.

I like that his dad worked for the UN’s international maritime commission developing a love of dusty old NY disco . Cool job.

Late pimping for the Zoot Woman single "We Won't Break", which otherwise might be lost given it is a free digital-only teaser from an album which has been delayed two years.

I'd absolutely love this decade of music if this was in fact the sound of today.

Also, I'm feeling old. Given that I've spent the year exploring ethnic and modern academic music, I've only heard 24 of the nominated albums, and only 12 of which I'd be excited to see on a year-end best of. I'm just sending in a list of those, and forgoing additional votes that would say more about my corner of ILM's demographics than exceptional music of the day.

Hmph. Well, that's quite clearly sarcastic (especially seeing as I have already posted to this thread), but I will clarify: I was offline throughout most of the nomination period due to the utter shiteness of Virgin, and thus missed that round of voting entirely. I have been compiling my list, and was intending to get it in on Wednesday or Thursday, but due to unforseen circumstances I couldn't get online on those days either, so have completely fucked it up.

The only thing that I really care about is that people add 20 extra points to El Guincho and 19 extra to the Chap.

I've made a "controversial decision".

I wish someone had pointed out that Merriweather Post Pavilion was a 2009 album earlier. It really has no place in the poll so I am taking it out. For those of you who voted for it, I will sent you an email and if you respond by tonight you can swap something else in for it. Otherwise, I am going to finish this today so I can start tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm on board with stripping it from the 2008 poll. I'm also on board with loving it, despite hating all the other Animal Collective records.

I listened to "My Girls" and I like the synth arpeggios and stuff, cause you know, that's totally my thing when done right, but then they ruin it with Beach Boys vocals, which always make me want to curl into the fetal position. Nauseous is absolutely right.

the vocals are probably the biggest turn-off for me but i don't know how people can take the shoddy basic-photoshop-filter production, the queasy infantilism or the meandering, aimless, pointless remedial melodies, repeated inanely as though any of them were hooks you needed to hear more than once.

but yeah, his voice. dude cannot sing, like not at all, and it's painful to listen to. and i don't think i've ever seen anyone defend it, which means that even AC fans know deep down how shitty it is.

So you don't like it, Lex? Weird, you've not mentioned it before ;)

Just FYI, since the new thread title isn't as obnoxiously long as this one and you might not notice it:
