Hah, I was thinking that the other smiley face was the first one, but the top left corner was the nose, like it was in profile.

Amazed by many of these logos, but esp. FedEx arrow. So elegant. There's a brief interview with the designer here: http://www.thesneeze.com/mt-archives/000273.php.
One other thing about the logo: the bottom of "ed" in Fed falls ever so slightly below the writing line. Wheels of a truck? Or am I making stuff up now I can't look at logos in a normal way any longer..?

willem, Thursday, 10 May 2012 18:32 (eleven years ago) link

I can see it now. YAY!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 10 May 2012 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

yeah the big smilie face is just a big version of the same g!

goole, Thursday, 10 May 2012 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

goole, Thursday, 10 May 2012 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

Wish there was a 'bees eating a dead lion' exhibit at the zoo.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 May 2012 18:52 (eleven years ago) link

I always thought that the bees were building a nest inside the dead lion?

omg!

mizzell, Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

maybe it's like those parasites that control animals, and the bees turn the lion into a puppet and it's like a zombie bee-filled lion

how could would THAT be

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

that spartan golf course one is amazing

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

And then you break open the bee controlled zombie lion like a pinata and golden syrup comes out?

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

Because I think that's what JFK really wanted NASA to work on, but he settled for telling them to go to the moon instead.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

the only thing cooler than a zombie lion bee golden syrup pinata is the moon, tbh

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

i never noticed the 31 in the BR before. That explains why that logo always makes my head hurt though.

Scott, bass player for Tenth Avenue North (Hurting 2), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

xp If it was a zombie bee golden syrup pinata moon, then I'd agree with you.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

idk a decomposing lion swarmed with bees sounds like a fitting emblem for a product called 'treacle'

zubaz fupa (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 10 May 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

I wish they hadn't shut down the space missions; we could send a bee-filled zombie lion to the moon.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:00 (eleven years ago) link

xp Golden syrup isn't the same as treacle

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

At least in the colloquial English sense. 'treacle' usually refers to black treacle.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

Except when talking about 'treacle tart', which is usually made with golden syrup.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:05 (eleven years ago) link

mmm treacle tart

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:06 (eleven years ago) link

is treacle delicious? i hope it doesn't taste like meat bees.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:07 (eleven years ago) link

treacle tastes like delicious, not at all like meat bees

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

Treacle sponge is also golden syrup iirc. And my parents called the golden syrup cake "treacle cake" but 1. Google is not backing me up there 2. apparently there is also a McVitie's / Lyle's black treacle cake which I have never seen in the shops and now want to try.

(Even though there is currently a cake turning to cardboard in my fridge after we ate about 2 slices each, because we are not big cake eaters. Not that you'd know it to look at me)

we need to get back to talking about signs before I start waxing lyrical about golden syrup DUMPLINGS!

Always called this 'golden syrup sponge'

In 1982 necrophage bees were discovered--bees that feed on carrion. But they don't make honey in carcasses. They spit on the rotting meat and then slurp up the broken-down protein slurry and bring it back to the hive where it's partially digested again and deposited in little containers to feed the larvae.

Pour that over your sponge cake.

i want to see and misinterpret the logo of a fitness drink called 'protein slurry', please provide.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link

http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Protein_slurry_pack

Protein slurry packs are canned food consumed by terrans. It appears that their taste leaves something to be desired.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

we get 'meat bees' on the back patio at work - they're attracted to food and they're kind of weird and gross

It took me years to figure out that this logo was supposed to be two interlocking oak leaves.

banal like anal (snoball), Thursday, 10 May 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

ha i just gis'd a bunch of protein shakes and all the logos for that stuff are decidedly straightforward

wonder if the fedex logo designer(s) were ever tempted by:

the problem with the WH Smith logo snoball posted a ways back is that it's so counter-intuitive with regard to standard reading patterns. in decoding english, the eye wants to go right to left, top to bottom, but that logo insists that we go bottom to top. the first thing we hit is that squared-off 'W', which looks more like an upside-down 'M' (a letter that's much more commonly squared like that), which makes me want to read it spinning clockwise, left to right: MSH.
