tempted to vote Basquiat even though i only saw it the one time a million years ago. it was the first time i saw him in anything and i was awed. but i haven't seen him in much since then--only W. and Angels the miniseries. i guess he was fine in both but yeah, he's not very colin powell-y in W and for some reason i thought he was only okay in Angels.
it's sort of a disappointing career so far, in the sense that a lot of these movies maybe haven't given him enough to do. wish i could have seen some of the plays.

He was fine in Basquiat; the movie was the hip thing to see in fall '96. Ah, youth.

i used to watch basquiat as my like easy (sorry) buddy movie kinda movie, just on a saturday morning when i wasn't doing anything. because the soundtrack was really great and it was so cut and glued and it was poppy and easy. his performance is v affecting though. him & benicio. jeffrey wright's soft eyes. & the weird mythical coda about the boy & the crown, i still think about it.
horseshoe otm, would love to see him on stage

he's undoubtedly done better, but I'm voting for Shaft cuz that's the first time I said "woah, who's that guy"

the answer probably is angels in america but i voted boycott, which can get a little 'tv movie' at times but his king is incredible, really brings the man to life and goes beyond any elements of mere impression to an extent i don't think i've ever seen before w/ a figure that iconic, more than denzel's malcolm x even i think. plus erik dellums as bayard rustin and reg e. cathey as e.d. nixon w/ clark johnson directing - david simon affiliations all over this thing! plus CCH POUNDER is in it. high recommendation.

basquiat isn't great for sure but it has a pretty great soundtrack and it works as a smarter (maybe) and more fun midnight in paris, it's pleasures are similar - o man there's rene ricard! and there's mary boone! and uh there's julian schnabel!

Warhol and Basquiat shopping for caviar is my favorite scene.

I heard Cale's version of "Hallelujah" and PiL's "Public Image" for the first time thanks to its soundtrack, which was a cognoscenti-type purchase in the late nineties.

He poured his heart out along side Mos Def in Topdog/Underdog. One of my most memorable theater experiences.

well he is the gravedigger. is bill murray polonius? not sure i can picture him in any other role. i played polonius and claudius in high school (in tom stoppard's 15 minute hamlet).

Yeah Bill is Polonius. They really did gut the graveyard scene. And Casey Affleck is Fortinbras and he appears only in a PICTURE ON A WALL haha.
