I would very much like Morbs to get in a ballot, as I'm hoping he might bump up some of the older stuff (not an age joke). Although I'd like oddities to make it in, and I don't really give a shit about established canon, I'll definitely be annoyed if there's barely anything pre-50s...

― emil.y, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 1:30 PM (54 minutes ago)

agree w/ all this. tho there are over 10 canon films from the 60s/70s I dropped from my ballot to make room for other stuff, my breakdown by decade still looks like:

20s - 2
30s - 2
40s - 1
50s - 3
60s - 7
70s - 18
80s - 8
90s - 5
00s - 4

apparently 1973 was the most horrifying year on record, and, with one off-the-wall exception, all my post 80s picks ended up being non-US.

kino's blu-ray of ganja and hess came out yesterday. one of my last ballot cuts.

Burton's Dark Shadows is set in 1972, which explains why it's not horrifying I guess.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 19:29 (eleven years ago) link

It's crazy how many of my all-time favorite movies are horror.

Ha yeah. My top three aren't just my favorite horror movies; they're my favorite movies.

I think I forgot Night of the Hunter! After all that talk. Sheesh.

lol, yeah, there isn't much difference between my "favorite horror movies" list and my "favorite movies" list, thought the former doesn't include like the philadelphia story and repo man.

i did not forget to vote for night of the hunter

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

Man. Listening to Mancini's score to Lifeforce right now and it's so damn good. Meant to see the movie in time for this poll, but a long visit from the mother-in-law prevented that. Maybe I'd have ended up with three Tobe Hooper joints on my ballot instead of two...

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

Sweet. I wondered if anyone else voted for Spontaneous Combustion and The Mangler.

OK, I'm calling it. Balloting is officially closed ...

UNLESS you can provide me a compelling excuse for your tardy ballot while I await Morbs' ballot, which I granted an extension. If I like your story enough and you're reasonably hasty, I'll let it slide.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Thursday, 10 May 2012 04:35 (eleven years ago) link

I'm just waiting to see which Rest Stop movie will place higher.

54 ballots, btw ... not counting the one I gave the extension.

I think the results have their fair share of happy surprises, though one or two of them are going to test my ability to remain neutral as the "host."

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:32 (eleven years ago) link

Ha ha. Those are the kinds of hints I like to hear.

Speaking of hints, could you maybe just throw us a bone and, I dunno, post the entirety of the results thus far? I mean just real quick. Thanks so much!

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

And as the "host", you really deserve a moniker befitting the role, yeah? Like Uncle Putrid or The Casketmaker or somesuch.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:40 (eleven years ago) link

one or two of them are going to test my ability to remain neutral as the "host."

Surely that should be "one or two of them are going to test my ability to remain neutral as The Host"?

emil.y, Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:40 (eleven years ago) link

LOL, oh man, I should roll each and every result out in the style of an EC host. That could get tiresome after the first seven or eight.

"Welcome back, my little BORES and GHOULS. I see you've come LURCHING back for another DRIPPY DOSE of TOOTHSOME TERROR. If BLOOD is what you crave, then SHARPEN up your FANGS for this CUTTING ENTRY in our countdown ... or should I say, COUNT-DRACULA-DOWN?"

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Thursday, 10 May 2012 13:45 (eleven years ago) link

THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.

Putrid puns just seemed to come so easy to writers in the '50s.

There's at least one website out there dedicated to obsessively cataloguing all of these horror hosts (aka doing God's work).
