When Leonard Pitts was still a music critic his mission was to proselytize on behalf of the misunderstood genius of Grayson Hugh.

Are all of these indeed lost treasure? Should I listen?

There are some real gems in this thread, Doctor Casino. Although the extent to which you're likely to agree is roughly equivalent to your tolerance for synth stabs.

Donna Summer - "This Time I Know It's For Real"

I've come to realize lately that Donna Summer has one of my all-time favorite voices. And this song is just great, especially for a single this late in someone's career.

(Donna Summer reminds me of Chaka Khan's "Love You All My Lifetime," which I may have posted on a recent thread dedicated to unsung early '90s R&B.)

reaches further back, but the late 80s is well-represented. probably speaks to the ages of many of the contributors.

lots of Freddy-related hip-hop tracks back then, but no one seemed to be rapping abt Jason or Michael Myers.

Freddy was at the peak of his popularity around this time, while the others were a little old hat.

Doctor Casino, if you want to know what 1991 random chart-pop sounded like, start here loool

I thought Doctor Casino was at least somewhat aware of pop in 1991:
Is there a name for that genre of turn-of-the-90s pop-rock with the positive vibes, huge guitar leads, and gated drums?

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Monday, 7 May 2012 20:21 (1 year ago) Permalink

he was saying upthread that he didn't recognise a lot of the songs, is the only reason I said it

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 7 May 2012 20:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

Kylie didn't enter back into the US charts until 2001. Though I was under impression that her only song that charted in the 80's was Locomotion but "I Should Be So Lucky" and "It's No Secret" apparently did as well.
