being a pedant, but re: that dave dub cover, it looks like hand-lettered text, not type

nowhere near as good as the new one, though

It's hilarious isn't it? I like the build up of different visual planes too, and the wetness of the window and the greeness behind is just lovely.

totally ridiculous on the face of it, but beautiful and smart as hell

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 07:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

Wait, why smart as hell? I like it and everything, but am I missing something? Conjures the last Mark McGuire LP for the background, anyway...

Bulge Pimp (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 08:32 (1 year ago) Permalink

if we had avatars i'd be using it as one right now

12plsrU (electricsound), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 08:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

for one thing the fact that there are six planes of perception in play (eight if you count the water drops), for another the deliberately bad comedy popeye skeleton waiting in his car for whatever happens next (choose your own adventure). plus just looks great, half the battle.

he's gonna fuck someone's shit up, i just know it

On the one hand you do have the deliberate cheapness and the crassness of the skull, which is entirely in keeping with the 80's horror soundtrack vibe of the music and there's some sort of narrative being set up - the skull isn't facing itself, it's freaking out at something unknown located outside of the shot (in the car? outside the car?). The different reflections in the mirror are puzzling cos it looks like the windows are reflecting back into it. You've got that white van and you're wondering what's in the back, or who just got out. And where does that path outside lead? And then you have the beauty of the raindrops on the windscreen, that lovely greenness of the garden, the way the sky is actually quite bright, but the blue sun strip thing is modulating the light.

I'm pretending also that it's Mike Watt freaking out five miles down the road from the Double Nickels shot as Donald Pleasence steps out of the van ahead.

a field of tiny skulls that when squinted at "magically" reveals the image of a trilaterally dimensional skull

cock chirea, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 02:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

Except that is good.

Reading the praise for that Umberto cover is making me question my own reality and sense of order in the universe.

if i had one of those restoration hardware frames into which you put album covers, i would put it and offer no explanation to all who complained

Nice. I think this might be one of my favorite Bobby P covers yet.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 10 May 2012 17:27 (1 year ago) Permalink

want to like the new dopesmoker cover, as i've been a roper fan for ages, but like i said on some sleep thread or another, this is the best part of the design, imo:

the rest is just dull
