Omg I am going to berlin today :D

I've allotted myself like 300 euro for records, and that may just be for hardwax.

Drrtyhaze - Giving You All Of My Love (King DJ Remix)

kinda balearic techno with male-diva vocals and big organ stabs, I'm really into this after hearing it out a few times recently

what I've heard off the Justin Martin album is shaping up really nicely, the sound palette definitely fits into the last couple years of dirtybird's Metalheadz homages.

not even really house music anymore, is it?

the late great, Monday, 7 May 2012 15:26 (1 year ago) Permalink

Not at all. Dirtybird and CVS have been going that way. I used to really like CvS but it depends where he plays now. Down with the Bristol/Bass scene...

The beatless version of Gui Boratto's "This Is Not The End" is so good and so effective that it's made me go back and explore his own catalogue which, brief romance with Chromophobia aside, I've never felt strongly about one way or another, but is in fact actually pretty consistent and impressive.

i know this is dec 2011 ... and i was not particularly expecting to be that impressed by this because hissing thumping greyscale post-berghain serious techno yadda yadda yadda ... mainly just bought it because i still have a boner for DELTA (the artist who did the cover, not the dj) and what the hell, i kind of have a boner for delta funktionen too

but damn ... this is THEE SHIT if you're still looking for something to match dettmann's immense berghain 02 mix

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 04:55 (1 year ago) Permalink

whoops, well, click through to the pic if you like

i'm not sure what to say about it, i mean it's basically just straightforward contemporary techno and neither the tracks themselves nor the mixing are next-level in any obvious way you can point to but it's like, perfectly-formed or whatever, i just listened to it on repeat like three times in a row and did the same last night too (grabbed it on tuesday iirc) and it's been awhile since i've had that reaction to a straight-ahead techno mix

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 04:58 (1 year ago) Permalink

not sure what to say about that mix. listened to it once and never have the urge to pick it up again. I just feel it's like a bunch of tracks mixed together without any real flow.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 12 May 2012 13:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

well it depends what you mean by "flow", i mean it is called "inertia" and it has that endless cycling vibe of alot of my favorite machinic techno (things like mid-to-late period tresor recs that just sort of pound away like a well-tuned car engine doing a steady 100 mph on the freeway)

i have to admit i'm not necessarily a huge fan of 80-minute long build-ups and breakdowns and i suppose that's why i can listen to it three times in a row, it's much more about creating and maintaining a (steely-gray, polished but murky) atmosphere rather than masturbating the listener

the late great, Saturday, 12 May 2012 18:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

"i'm not necessarily a huge fan of 80-minute long build-ups and breakdowns"

hmmm maybe that's the key to our difference in appreciating this mix. I'm a fan of 20-minute buildups and then that "we're on" moment comes at the 25th minute or so.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 13 May 2012 00:38 (1 year ago) Permalink

while this mix starts with a BANG from the first second. I wondered, seriously? where's the buildup?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 13 May 2012 00:50 (1 year ago) Permalink

i understand what you're saying but personally i think that sort of things tends to work better IRL than in a recorded context, and certainly i wouldn't want to listen to stuff like that all of the time

Claro Intelecto LP on Delsin is best thing he's done in ages and another great Album length from Delsin after Conforce / Morphosis recent efforts ... I also picked up the Soul 223 EP which is absolutely lovely

That is impressive to my ears. I had passed on checking it out til now because the Dirtybird sound had become so stale from what I heard. I should give them another shot. Did they explicitly say they were paying homage to Metalheadz? Kind of funny because I'm pretty sure the club where they got their start was formerly my home for many a boisterous evening of d&b supplied by various visitors from London, etc.

viborg, Friday, 18 May 2012 14:27 (1 year ago) Permalink

those steve pickton tracks on soul jazz are amazing. i keep planning to pick up his paul w teebroke album as well as "past movements" but never get around to it. really love "fromtheoldtothenew" and his mo'wax stuff is all-time. on the other hand i'm still not sold on the b12, a.r.t. or peacefrog material.

love this, very pop obviously but sounds like sebastian tellier doing house, or a cousin of "something about us".

The new album by Lauer (one half of Arto Mwambe) is hitting the spot for me right now. The last track, 'Trainman' is particularly great.

I notice that Tensnake has done two remixes, one substitled 'Franceman' the other 'Tranceman'. Stoked for those.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 19 May 2012 15:57 (1 year ago) Permalink

yeah, the Lauer album is awesome, and the Tensnake remixes do not disappoint.

Not totally convinced that this should be posted here, but it's a Todd Terje mix so is not totally irrelevant. It's also a little hipsterish. Still, it's good.

For all the Running Back love around here, I am surprised no one has mentioned the B.D.I. record. It is the most interesting and adventurous music Gerd has released in awhile:

B.D.I. - Paper Tears (Same Victories Same Mistakes)

On related note, the new Citizen's Band record on Live at the Robert Johnson is worth looking into. Unfortunately, Broken Rome is not posted on youtube in it's entirety. It is a nice slice of claustrophobic house. It is a bit out of place from the usual "deep" sounds they release. I'd like to hear more of it.

All Flowers Must Fade, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 18:04 (11 months ago) Permalink

Yeah I'd be interested in that citizens band thing, haven't heard it tho...

coal, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 19:23 (11 months ago) Permalink

Love that B.D.I. didn't know it was Gerd... also loving the Vakula album as Vedomir on Dekmantel. its quite all over the place vibe and style wise which is no surprise if you follow his productions.

dsb, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 19:39 (11 months ago) Permalink

thanks for pointing out the new BDI - Its really is something special ... their city & industry on Rush Hour a few years ago is a hardy perrenial of mine but not seen anything by them for a hot minute so ta for that
