sienfeld was about 'four white people who have adventures' i thought

was this coincidental or a deliberate callback to the ep title? and was some dude's response also a callback to the episode?

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 01:56 (1 year ago) Permalink

i ask bc i read both those posts an hour ago and the only thing i noticed was that seinfeld was misspelled

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 01:58 (1 year ago) Permalink

of course my post was a ref to the episode

btw i'm looking very much forward to next week's episode where a band STEALS hannah's DIARY and writes a SONG about it, which i believe was adapted from an episode of sabrina the teenage witch.

i'm feeling really credulous tnite but i'll ask: really??

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 02:27 (1 year ago) Permalink

i absolutely buy that al has an encyclopedic knowledge of sabrina the teenage witch plotlines

horseshoe, Thursday, 3 May 2012 02:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

no, he's right about that. i saw that sabrina episode. but i'm shocked that girls is running that plotline.

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 02:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

a) that pretty much is what the 'next week on girls' clip at the end of this week's episode looks like yes b) i THOUGHT i was kidding about sabrina, i've seen a lot of episodes of that show and don't actually remember one about that

Neil Young’s social media channels (some dude), Thursday, 3 May 2012 02:31 (1 year ago) Permalink

w/r/t the conservative angle/nytimes editorial i mean it figures that douthat of all ppl would enjoy any and all things in the genre of "bad sex." I mean is this 2nd rate dunham or what:

"One successful foray ended on the guest bed of a high school friend’s parents, with a girl who resembled a chunkier Reese Witherspoon drunkenly masticating my neck and cheeks. It had taken some time to reach this point–”Do most Harvard guys take so long to get what they want?” she had asked, pushing her tongue into my mouth. I wasn’t sure what to say, but then I wasn’t sure this was what I wanted. My throat was dry from too much vodka, and her breasts, spilling out of pink pajamas, threatened my ability to. I was supposed to be excited, but I was bored and somewhat disgusted with myself, with her, with the whole business… and then whatever residual enthusiasm I felt for the venture dissipated, with shocking speed, as she nibbled at my ear and whispered–”You know, I’m on the pill…”

i'm glad i spelled seinfeld correctly. proof i guess against my better judgment i'm gen x. xpost w that thread.

a friend high-fived me tonight when i agreed that this show was my favourite tv right now.
we were at an indie-art-rock show.
i felt like i was on tv.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 3 May 2012 06:53 (1 year ago) Permalink

yeah haha i don't think this show is about profound moments because it's about the everyday life of certain twenty-somethings who while being somewhat-to-greatly self-conscious aren't all that self-aware. there's a difference, and so their profound moments don't necessarily seem all that profound even though they might be monumental in their lives at the time - i wouldn't call those moments trivial though. i mean, true, maybe in mainstream movies and tv, people have profound life-changing moments all the time, but that's the traditional nature of that stream of the medium. remember what a big deal it was that Seinfeld was "a show about nothing"? and it was, and that was great. but this show is about more than that.

i'm really looking forward to the whole "let's refer to these characters ONLY AS XXXXX'S DAUGHTER" thing to run its course.

Maybe because no one knows the name of the characters?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:37 (1 year ago) Permalink

yes, it's so much easier to remember 'that is non-celebrity brian williams' daughter' every time you hear the name of the character 'marnie' or see 'olivia williams' in the credits than it is to remember that the character is named 'marnie' or the actress 'olivia williams'

thomp, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:41 (1 year ago) Permalink

alternatively, it's straight up misogynist bullshit

thomp, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

since when is brian williams not a celebrity?

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

okay, pretend i used kirke or dunham for my example instead

thomp, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:45 (1 year ago) Permalink

everyone calls dunham by her name tho and not the daughter of X.

Mordy, Thursday, 3 May 2012 13:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

i've seen it done. it was more forced than the others, though.
