agreed, but bits of it do remind me of:

Would be really great if this Neurot contract led to some reissues of the old stuff.

Lucifer Songs and Snailking just got reissued by the band this spring.

Oh shit, they did? Had no idea! Do you know where you can get them? Looks like Aquarius only has Lucifer Songs and they aren't turning up in some of my other usual haunts.

All That Is Heavy has them both.

Hah, I was just thinking I should check there, thanks.

That was where I used to get all my Ufomammut before the Neurot deal.

Finally heard the new one. It's great! Sounds really different from Snailking, which is the only other one I have.

You are going to have fun filling in the blanks! All the records between Snailking and the new double ORO are good to great. If you like what they do there's not a dud in the catalog.

That's good to know. Do they tour much/ever?
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 29 October 2012 19:57 (6 months ago) Permalink
Yeah, they've been to the US a couple of times now.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 29 October 2012 19:59 (6 months ago) Permalink
They tour Europe all the time. They came to the States once or twice about a decade ago; at least that's what Ned and Nate tell me when they want me to be jealous. I have hopes that they might tour here again now that they have a stable record deal.

See? There's Ned, right on cue, to make me jealous.

Ha, I can't make you too jealous! While they've appeared, I've yet to catch them myself, sadly.

So I'll hold my real animosity for Nate. :)
Maybe I'll give him an earful when I see him in a few weeks.

Well regardless, if I missed them coming through here I'll be disappointed. I probably did miss it, but they won't get past me next time.

I'm so glad you like them. One of my favorite bands of the past decade.

I'm digging Opus: Alter, but I didn't like Opus: Primum much. Go figure.

It's really one piece and works best that way. Back to back strengthens Primum a lot. I do think Alter is stronger, but some of that comes from completing musical themes began on Primum.

The combination of the two is fantastic and going to reach pretty high on my year-end list. I had a long flight back from California last week which finally gave me the opportunity to play them back to back, loud. It was fantastic.

they make me feel like i should be watching a laser planetarium show
but a heavy one

I did listen to them together in order, but I wasn't grabbed till the Alter songs. Primum for me was just too samey; Alter is more dynamic in contrast, and more interesting to my ears.
