Whatever.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 30 April 2012 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

OK, actually an interesting read, now I'm halfway through.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 30 April 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

That song is pretty awesome. Also has about 10% of the reverb modern 'MBV-influenced' bands tend to use.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2012 19:15 (eleven years ago) link

unreleased tracks are on youtube

HUH?

OMG!

tbh kinda torn b/w wanting to listen to them RIGHT NOW & waiting to get my hands on something of respectable quality. What a fantastic surprise! I honestly had no idea that there would be unreleased material included w/ the remasters (or they'd ever even happen themselves obv).

fishermen are coveted by whores & stoners (Pillbox), Monday, 30 April 2012 19:26 (eleven years ago) link

They've been around for about 3 years anyway.

Blimey: My Bloody Valentine 20-year old demos surface?

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 30 April 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

those paragraphs about how "everything's brought up to zero" don't fill me with confidence.

koogs, Monday, 30 April 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

That's an interesting interview, especially the treatment by the record labels.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Monday, 30 April 2012 21:25 (eleven years ago) link

yeah saying one of the tracks had to be a "sacrificial lamb" to get everything up to a louder volume is kinda :S

That's a pretty funky dance, Garfield. Show me how you do it. (frogbs), Monday, 30 April 2012 21:27 (eleven years ago) link

so which remaster of loveless is better, the new one or the old one from the analog tape? is there a huge difference?

two streams

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

both streams are almost exactly the same loudness, the analog one seems *slightly* less compressed and easier on the ears

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

will have to withhold tru judgement until i can blast this on my stereo at home

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

LITERALLY no difference on those 2 streams.

piscesx, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 03:27 (eleven years ago) link

sure, a crappy stream of something that dude carefully remastered for one specific audio format only and to be played loud on an actual hi-fi, that'll prove lots

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 03:37 (eleven years ago) link

No Cassette edition?

(I have the minidisc edition already)

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 08:52 (eleven years ago) link

So far it seems like the underwhelming 2008 promo leak was in fact genuine. Meh.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 10:32 (eleven years ago) link

Actually, now I'm listening to it again with some A/B with the orginal CD and I think I prefer the EQ balance on these new ones, there's definitely a fuller sound, however it also seems to be quite fatiguing on my ears, but maybe I'm just listening to it too loud.

I haven't actually listened to the album for a couple of years at least and I was beginning to think I may have overrated it, but it's still pretty amazing.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 11:52 (eleven years ago) link

Shields says the 2008 leak was unfinished

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 12:41 (eleven years ago) link

In order to hear the difference you have to play it at top volume through the band's PA.

Kevin Shields remastering the records seems about as reliable as Neil Young doing it. Dude's own hearing has probably had a few dBs rolled off, if you follow me.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 13:00 (eleven years ago) link

however it also seems to be quite fatiguing on my ears

yeah I don't think a stream like this will really be helpful to judge - everything hurts at 128k

Brakhage, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 17:19 (eleven years ago) link

the remastered EPs sound very very good. nice to have a reason to listen to all these tracks again anyway.

the aower of aussy (electricsound), Monday, 7 May 2012 02:08 (eleven years ago) link

the first was loveless as you remember, the second was meant for kevin's chinchillas

i like this theory

bark ruffalo (latebloomer), Monday, 7 May 2012 03:26 (eleven years ago) link

Bilinda sounds louder/ clearer on the EPs.

piscesx, Monday, 7 May 2012 03:36 (eleven years ago) link

So any idea what is actually coming out in the U.S.? I've seen the EP collection available for pre-order at Amazon, but neither of the other two remasters are.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 7 May 2012 15:00 (eleven years ago) link

Haha oh wait, the Loveless remaster is an import for now. $66. Ugh.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 7 May 2012 15:05 (eleven years ago) link

Only $52 for the Isn't Anything remaster though.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 7 May 2012 15:05 (eleven years ago) link

I ordered direct from Amazon UK (I didn't realize you could place orders using your US account) - I think it was less than twenty bucks shipped to the US. Should be here in a week or so

Brakhage, Monday, 7 May 2012 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

it's just so bizarre to me that there is not a single mention online of a US release. i keep hearing may 15th tossed around but somehow i think sony wants to build up anticipation beyond just a week - well, anticipation in context of announce date to release date. they've sort been waited on for the past decade and a half.

kelpolaris, Monday, 7 May 2012 17:26 (eleven years ago) link

fwiw, Amazon lists June 5th for the U.S. release of the expensive ass import versions. the fairly priced EPs collection is listed as May 15th.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 7 May 2012 17:39 (eleven years ago) link

Not sure why anyone would wait. Just order from Amazon.co.uk. Around $15 each shipped.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 7 May 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

Aah, but you forget the part where I have Amazon Prime. Free 2day shipping, fool.

kelpolaris, Monday, 7 May 2012 21:40 (eleven years ago) link

also, i already have flacs of the remasters and possess an embarrassing amount of unreleased MBV material. "bilinda song" has been one of my favorites for years and it kinda confuses me that "kevin song" wasn't included with the remastered ep's. i'm buying these purely for support-ical reasons, as any funding that contributes to shield's putting forth this new album i will gladly donate. i've considered starting a paypal fund just to hurry this shit up - the worlds ending for chrissake.

kelpolaris, Monday, 7 May 2012 21:42 (eleven years ago) link

OK, so -

- Single-disc remaster of Loveless via Amazon.com: $66.50

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ROVEB6/ref=s9_bbs_gw_d6_g15_ir04?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1PXMX5Z99FW6T585F7JX&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846

- Double-disc remaster of Loveless via amazon.co.uk: $19.11 (including shipping)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00197X1V8/ref=ox_ya_os_product

I got... um, the latter one.

Stravinsky joins the Zulu nation (zero of the signified), Monday, 7 May 2012 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

I too have Amazon prime, but the shipping on these from the UK was about $2.50 each when ordered together and only takes about 5 days.

Anyway, if you're not in a rush, then I'm sure there'll be a US release someday.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:13 (eleven years ago) link

ok, maybe i'll consider that then. how did you get your prime shipping to transfer over? i tried logging into amazon.co.uk w/ my US account and was required to make a new one.

kelpolaris, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

Prime is not eligible when ordering from the UK site. Your login/password should be the same as your US account. Here is the shipping cost schedule for the USA: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200706160&pop-up=1

Spencer Chow, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:44 (eleven years ago) link

The shipping cost I mentioned earlier is standard for everyone (Prime or no) and was based on ordering all 3.

I mean, if you're fine with your FLACs, they'll probably be out here eventually for $10/each with Prime.

I am just an old physical media nerd.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

That gets excited about imports etc. Remember those???

Spencer Chow, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

Just picked up my copy of the EP's CD from HMV for £10. Bit of a missed opportunity for liner notes. Just pictures of the EP covers on the inside sleeve and again in the booklet with a centre spread of small band pics.

ringworm, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 09:29 (eleven years ago) link

In hmv, all three bought together on special offer of £25.

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 12:35 (eleven years ago) link

think someone said fopp were doing the same.

koogs, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 12:36 (eleven years ago) link

with free poster...

koogs, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 12:37 (eleven years ago) link

Fopp is a small distance, but cool.

xpost yeah right.

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 12:37 (eleven years ago) link

actually, I take that back..

Anyways, dnw free poster.

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

I bought all three together in HMV in Exeter yesterday and didn't get a fiver off. Bastards.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 13:30 (eleven years ago) link

Jealous of you Brits. Going to check my local shop at lunch, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. After all, I've been waiting years... whats a few more weeks/months?

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 14:09 (eleven years ago) link

It took 10 years and tons of hand-wringing, but don't worry, they've completely botched the job:

great article, but still can't get over your usage of "dosh"

dosh dosh dosh dosh dosh dosh dosh

kelpolaris, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

"The 2012 release has the CDs backwards, though the cover art still indicates above."

So I'm assuming the printing on the CDs themselves is wrong? Confusing article.
