Another exceptionally lame interview by S Hattenstone for the Grauniad; warning, some of the most stupid questions ever asked in any interview are present here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/apr/27/nicki-minaj-bigger-balls-than-the-boys

haha i yelled at my computer when i read that thing. so many interesting questions to ask! none of them asked! i learn not one single new thing about nicki.
might as well have got a random commenter to do it in the spirit of ~open journalism~

this line really bothers me, makes nicki sound like a try-hard. if you get to sit with anna, no need to brag about it!

i can't believe i ever hated "starships"!!!! i just blasted it out of my window and sang along to every word and enjoyed every moment.
it's kind of like the OPPOSITE of a memento mori club banger - we are immortal, we were born for this and there will never be a comedown~~~

I still have mixed feelings about the track despite having very clear feelings abt the rap half of the record vs the pop half.

song is pretty whatever... if it was jessie j or something i'd give it slightly more credit but nicki is capable of much better

My wife is obsessed with it and its starting to grow on me the more I hear it, but it certainly does gain something in being heard flying down the highway on a nice summer day.

the 'higher than a mf' dance part of the song is by far the best part of "Starships" imo, hearing Nicki spit so-so bars over "Raise Your Glass" is whatever
― nakhchi little van (some dude), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link
I really like "Starships". At the Nicki concert I went to, that song got by far the biggest response from the fans, even bigger than "Super Bass". I was surprised.

yeah the "higher than a motherfucker" followed by the shameless breakdown is amazing.
i'm glad i caved into it before seeing nicki live - it went OFF here as well

Would usually disagree with stripping out elements deemed 'mainstream', but quite enjoying this mix of Minaj tracks re-edited with most choruses removed:

― jack chick-fil-A (dayo), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:03 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, this is kinda cool, anti-poptimist implications aside. Lots of my favorite raps by her, plucked from songs that otherwise involve having to put up with some crappy guest artist or w/e.

sharships is a grower for sure. she's the rap equivalent of prince, and starships is her "i wanna be your lover" but if the label keeps her on through the slow-sales-critical-acclaim and lets her do her own thing eventually she's gonna come at us with something insanely unstoppable?
i tried this argument on with someone yesterday and they countered "or, maybe she's great for a guest verse but just doesn't have it in her to be a mega pop star" and i was thinking well maybe this could be true too, but then they said "also i don't really like prince" and i was like THEN UR ARGUEMTN IS CLEARLY INVALID!!! and quickly changed the subject

maybe i'm reading this wrong but isn't she already a mega pop star? isn't starships already insanely unstoppable? am i dreaming?

points against starships:
- redone- namechecking bud light and patron in the first verse- the video- ho ho ho post-chorus "rave" part
points for:
- Jump in my hoopty hoopty hoop / I own thatAnd I ain't paying my rent this month / I owe thatBut f-ck who you want, and f-ck who you likeDance all night, there's no end in sightTwinkle, twinkle, little star- impossible not to sing along to
