I decided never to buy magazines like that after an incident when I was 17 and a guy in my class had a copy of GQ and was like "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaah this is how to be a man, snoball, betcha don't know anything about that, eh? Eh? Eh? Eh? Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh?!", all the while waving it in my face, and I realised that he was just a colossal twunt and the magazine may have only been partly responsible for that, but responsible enough for me to avoid that kind of thing.

Actually, I checked into a hotel with ENBB & her friend (sharing one room) and the clerk made a joke about how friend was a very lucky man! Then asked him how our night was when we checked out the next day 0_o

I liked her because when I first approached, nervous and alone, she complimented my hair/sunglasses and made me feel like leaving Canada for 48 hours wasn't the big mistake I'd made it out to be.

this morning NPR was doing a story on the 20 year anniv of the rodney king verdict, and were interviewing kids who go to high school in the neighborhood where the riots happened, and this 17 year old girl's name was ARTESIA COX and it sounded like "I'LL TEASE YA COCKS"

I had to explain who Rodney King was/where "can't we all just get along" came from/what the LA riots were to a younger coworker awhile ago. I was sad.

i kinda think that can be forgivable. 'school history' kind of stops a few decades before its own present. unless you are a political junkie or have chatty parents i think your perceptions of the recent past can be pretty fuzzy when you're young (20s, say).

when i was a teenager i had very little clear understanding of what happened in the 70s and 80s, or even the 60s beyond soundbites and iconic images. i learned a lot from old doonesbury collections tbh
