Apparently all the zoo animals are on the loose during flash flooding?

wider ilx needs to see that picture, where'd you find it?

goole, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 14:22 (11 months ago) Permalink

Reporter friend's FB page. Not sure where she got it (she's Mpls-based, not Duluth, so I can't verify for sure).

old people are made of poop (Eric H.), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 14:25 (11 months ago) Permalink

Yeah, reports say it looks like all but a few "barnyard" animals have been recaptured or died :(

old people are made of poop (Eric H.), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 14:26 (11 months ago) Permalink

Johnson said many of the zoo’s animals have drowned, including all but one of the zoo’s barnyard animals. She said the zoo’s donkey, goats and sheep have died. She said it’s possible others have drowned, as flooding on the grounds have consumed some of the exhibits, such as the raven and vulture cages.

every once in awhile it boggles my mind how the prevalence of cheap/free editing software and ubiquitous digital HD video capable devices have made it so easy to see amateur stuff that looks so professional

its crazy how many skate rats populate the streets of duluth, its like traveling back in time.

fyi since i apparently never reported back, vinyl cave was awesome, new scenic cafe is the shit, and the thirsty pagan in superior had some of the best beer i have had in forever and was super cool. i would totally live in duluth if i didnt have to have yknow a job and stuff

This. Although my searches have been somewhat fruitful of late in unearthing possibilities.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:51 (9 months ago) Permalink

that was awesome. i haven't been to duluth in ages, wonder how depressing it would be to see it now after all the nasty flooding.

arby's, Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:52 (9 months ago) Permalink

It wasn't all that noticeable last week. There are some parts south of town, especially near the river, that got pretty messed up and a couple roads still closed, but overall I don't think most of the city was too flooded.

your native bacon (mh), Thursday, 9 August 2012 17:54 (9 months ago) Permalink

Air conditioned my ass. It was like 95 when I passed through last week and ate at a rather elaborate rest area with a crazy up on the hill.

Went to a Duluth wedding and, yes, it was a fantastic city to do it in.

The view, the wind, the groom's dinner in the rotating restaurant.

Go to the thirsty pagan immediately, and if they have the anise saison, drink all of it for me

costly pussy riot (jjjusten), Saturday, 13 October 2012 03:16 (7 months ago) Permalink

I didn't make it to Thirsty Pagan unfortch. But I did sample some awesome wedding eats at Midi in the Fitger's complex and drink a lot of Surly at Luce, where we're having the groom's dinner. I fucking love the Twin Ports.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 15 October 2012 14:06 (7 months ago) Permalink

Also while wandering the streets of Superior I stumbled across the former headquarters of the Finnish Marxist newspaper Tyomies, something I had researched a little for a paper in college. My girl said that she had only ever known the building as a bar of the same name, which has since closed. There was a faded sign painted on the side of the building that said "DRINKING GETS DONE HERE" that initially caught my attention.

Loving these fast-motion videos of boats arriving/departing the Twin Ports.
