the thirteen were SO CRINGE

― r|t|c, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 01:41 (6 minutes ago)

I definitely cringed a little at "Xaro Xhoan Daxos". I mean it's fine on the page...

Number None, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:49 (eleven years ago) link

they're going insanely overboard with the sex and violence too. Most of which is not on the page

Number None, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:51 (eleven years ago) link

this one was probably the worst of the series. exposition was clunky and they couldn't even hang it on some decent thematic thread. obv i am crazy excited about next week, because I always am.

This was the last ep sent to critics (at least in the initial review package), which is the same as last year, and iirc it was about episode five where it became less about establishing everything and more about shit kicking into gear. I'm hoping this season follows that same rhythm, but with so much new crap i dunno.

I really don't think they are. There seems to be a lot less sex at least, at least as far as pointless nudity goes (only real case of sexposition all season was greyjoy in the ship iirc).

Violence is brutal, yes, but in times of war it makes sense that the worst excesses of a culture comes out.

I mean stuff like the Joffrey scene. Look we know he's a psychopathic little shit already

I'm loling at Rooney as Ramsay Bolton r|t|c

Number None, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:57 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, but this psychopathic in a different way. I thought it was the best scene of the episode.

okay, how on earth did they decide to pronounce this

at this point i barely know the names of anyone so this thread could explicitly spread spoilers like crazy; i'm happily clueless

I wonder if we're going to get the Bloody Mummers this season.

There are times in the books where the names come dangerously close to turning into Dr. Seuss names.

This was the last ep sent to critics (at least in the initial review package), which is the same as last year,

Critics got six eps last year! I expect that semi-major characters will start to bite it starting next episode (I haven't read the books; I'm just guessing) and they want to hold onto that as long as they can...

Walter Galt, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

Walter, your expectation is correct.

So... being careful not to spoil... in the books, Arya becomes Roose Bolton's cup-bearer at Harrenhal, not Tywin's, correct? This is a BIG change from the book and I'm not sure where they'll head with it...

um that is very much a spoiler though

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think a departure from the book is a spoiler.

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

its not a departure from the book, his post references stuff that hasnt happened yet

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

except that it won't happen now, because Tywin is at Harrenhal instead

he was there in the book too iirc...

Sorry! What Gukbe said there was my reasoning as to why it wasn't a spoiler. Will talk on the other thread.

"is he a ham" was fantastic.

welp, just ordered that.

Clay, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:23 (eleven years ago) link

according to the poster that is from the press kit and is a preview of the Blu-Ray feature. kind of thought HBOGo would mean I wouldn't have to bother buying the set but damn, if that's the kind of extras they've got.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:14 (eleven years ago) link

okay, i'm starting in w season 2 tonight, after saving up episodes for a while. thought i might be lost & playing catch-up for a while, cuz i remembered almost nothing about what'd been going on, but no, it's all come back. very enjoyable, too. do find myself bothered by the same thing that bugged me most last season: everyone on this show is complete idiot. no one behaves with even a trace amount of political sense or tact. funniest thing is that those who seem as though they're supposed to be the most wily (petyr baelish, for instance) are the most catastrophically stupid in this regard. "knowledge is power" my ass.

THE KITTEN TYPE (contenderizer), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:55 (eleven years ago) link

but that's the very magic of the show!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:02 (eleven years ago) link

im not enjoying this season as much, i think maybe because the watching all in one sitting is especially good for game of thrones idk

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:04 (eleven years ago) link

then u dont think abt it too hard

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:04 (eleven years ago) link

for sure. i mean, i read the first three books in a couple of weeks. thinking hard was at a minimum. highly satisfying.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:06 (eleven years ago) link

yet i still feel the anguish of waiting a week for each new ep

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:08 (eleven years ago) link

prob by the end when everyone gets their head cut off i will like it as much tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:08 (eleven years ago) link

oh man your mind will be BLOWN when you get to the ________ !!!!!!!

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:09 (eleven years ago) link

not that i know but that's what basically everyone who has read the books says about the show

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:10 (eleven years ago) link

i have been reading the spoilers thread i must admit

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:11 (eleven years ago) link

frankly i prob wouldve just read the wikipedia summaries of all the books by now except that theyre not even finished so whats the point

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:12 (eleven years ago) link

have tried real hard to avoid all spoilers. so far, i've managed to protect my virtue* from the taint of undesired knowledge. did read one thing abt tyrion that i hope doesn't happen, but i gather it lies beyond this season.

* ignorance
