this asshole had to wait 5 minutes until opening time! can you imagine

I recently visited this establishment with a group of 6 on a Saturday afternoon. We had just been to the service portion of a wedding and were looking to kill time before the reception. It was an incredibly hot day and we had hoofed it to Brewers in quite literally our Sunday Best. We arrived, dripping with sweat and in need of a tasty beer to save our over-heated spirits, at 3:55. Turns out they don't open until 4:00. So we knock anyway thinking any reasonable staff member(s) who values patrons would allow us to at LEAST come in out of the heat and wait the 5 minutes until the bar opens inside...especially since we were clearly not dressed in appropriate hot-as-hell-Saturday afternoon attire. But no, they answer the door, size us up, then tell us to wait outside until they open in 5 minutes.

I was truly shocked. Truly. I had heard nothing but great things about this place and this was definitely not what I imagined my first experience to be. I was also embarassed because I was the one singing their praises to convince this group to make the journey.

Well its a Subway and its pretty clean. While I don't go to Subway that often, I decided to go recently because I got a big booklet of coupons in the mail. Armed with my "Buy a 30oz drink, get a 6in flatbread for $1" coupon, I walked in and ordered a roast beef sandwich. I presented the cashier my coupon and...."oh we don't take coupons here."

I understand if the place doesn't want to take coupons... but it would have been nice to have a sign or something so I would know before I got to the cashier.

As for the food, its Subway. It was the first time however I tried the flatbread....and I don't think ill ever order a flatbread from Subway again. Stick with the real bread.

the logic that led to this journey is amazing to me.

it's funny that she's makes a big deal about how offensive the pasta was because it's not even made in-house

making fresh pasta is really time-consuming. i wouldn't blame most restaurants for outsourcing the job.

Our entree's were really tasty. My girlfriend ordered the risotto and I had a pasta with Pancetta that would have made Chef Boiardee look like a shit-head. I would like to come back and try the Coho Salmon. If anyone has had it there you have to let me know how it is.

I love that the reviewer apparently harbored some festering, deep-seated personal animosity towards Chef Boy-Ar-Dee.

Or that he used Chef Boy-Ar-Dee as his standard for pasta.

just slap one of those "They hate us on Yelp" stickers on the door and you are immediately insulated from all Yelp reviews through the power of snark.

two weeks pass...

The wait staff (while very nice) were poor at their job. I had to ask for my water to get filled multiple times; had to ask for the music to be turned down twice and changed because it sounded like a gym; two waitresses with only six people in the whole restaurant and they took forever with everything and didn't remember to check on us.

I think it is okay. It is not that special. It is definitely the place to go in woodbury when you are between the ages of 15-25 (depending on when you leave town ha ha and if you can get out alive). It is kind of a sad existence. I mean socializing between tables. I must have known about three of the waitresses ( some people from woodbury, one of friends wife) here at different times. It makes me depressed to think about it. I have not seen these people for ever now and don't want to see them again. The food is not that good. It is greasy and unhealthy and will probably take a couple years of your life. However, the seats are pretty comfortable. They are open 24 hours too I think.

^^ from way upthread but there is something wonderful about this passage, all the inadvertently revealed discomfort with one's lot in life, the choices one's made, the disquietude with a life of normal, positive social encounters with everyday unglamorous people, and then los blue jeans's display name just aligns with it so perfectly.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 20 May 2012 16:35 (eleven years ago) link

what is the yelp secret handshake

You just need to be dining/drinking in a visibly ill-matched group of young people, somewhere between team luncheon and double blind date. Then you need to proclaim loudly "Have you seen The Wire? It is one of the best TV series ever" and also talk loudly about European beers.

Don't worry, I'll spot you.

and omg this is so OTM, applies really well to a lot of other things too - - - there are certain teams i see at trivia nights regularly that have this exact vibe. A runs a comic store, B's a republican campaign strategist, C is on a seven-day bender and has notions of someday starting a noise band, etc. The only thing they find in common is that they all want to use the others as a sounding board for their pretensions.

Double espresso was a let down. Looks like they have a nice machine so probably pulled incorrectly. Arrived in a regular sized coffee mug and not a hot espresso cup. No crema on top and not strong enough to be espresso. Should be 2 oz Max.

Unfortunately, the pasta is no longer hand-made like it used to be, the Old World way. Its tastes cardboard-y, probably because it has not been freshly made, or worse it has been frozen. The pizza toppings are no longer the high-quality imported ingredients from years past. As with many restaurants in Athens, the service is hit or miss, more often miss than hit. Honestly, though, what can you expect from college students who want to work part-time but party full-time?

seriously there needs to be more places that are open 24hrs. but anyway, anytime is sufficient when it's raining or late......good enough to satisfy your french fry craving- i would give it a better review but once there was a screw in my salad....
