I just watched Almost Pizza and then the very next video I watched had an ad for DiGiorno before it

Time, a group with Jam and Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 23 April 2012 03:31 (eleven years ago) link

Kate McKinnon's only on her 3rd episode and I think I love her already, "What Is This?" and "Helga Lately" are great

some dude, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:38 (eleven years ago) link

That wasn't her on What Is This, was it?

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:40 (eleven years ago) link

no it was bayer

mizzell, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:42 (eleven years ago) link

o wait no she was the guest. was it her?

mizzell, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:44 (eleven years ago) link

Uh, no. No, it wasn't.

And, yeah, she seems like she's gonna be pretty good for the show. She might make for a decent Wiig replacement. Lorne's probably gonna start trawling failed sketch shows for more performers like her and Killam.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:46 (eleven years ago) link

I know she's ridiculously underused, but do people really not recognize Abby Elliott?

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:52 (eleven years ago) link

wait was that Abby Elliott? nvm, "Helga Lately" was dope though

some dude, Sunday, 6 May 2012 04:54 (eleven years ago) link

Great show tonight. Eli was stiff, but was at least given funny things to do. Court room sketch had me laughing out loud.

Loved "What Is This?" and "Helga Lately" too. And Eli's "Little Brothers" bit was on par with Peyton's "United Way" thing from a few seasons ago.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 6 May 2012 05:23 (eleven years ago) link

I don't love Abby Elliott.

I thought it started strong but the last few skits were clunkers.

Was impressed with Eli. I usually get bummed when they have sportsfigures on, sometimes they're suprisingly great, but most of the time they're terrible. He was stiff, but he didn't constantly fuck up his lines and had some good moments.

dan selzer, Sunday, 6 May 2012 07:06 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, they definitely gave him some decent material and he was game and not distractingly stiff.

In the Cheech & Chong bit, the line "Let's just call NASA and explain what happened" cracked me up for some reason.

wan brujo (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 6 May 2012 08:06 (eleven years ago) link

Good to see Hammer pants are back btw.

wan brujo (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 6 May 2012 08:08 (eleven years ago) link

I watched for maybe the first time in months, since I was waiting for the cat to come back inside. Seemed OK. The court room sketch took forever to get going, for an erratic pay-off, but once it was just Eli making faces it was funny. Also, his big brother protection agency bit was good.

News sucked. Lots of "wait for it ..." pauses on Seth's part for laughs that never came, and the Dictator bit was a bust.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 6 May 2012 12:02 (eleven years ago) link

there are plenty of digital shorts i like but this 100th thing was the worst thing ive ever seen on tv

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 May 2012 04:18 (eleven years ago) link

It was pretty terrible. Could Andy Samberg look and sound less like Nic Cage?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 13 May 2012 04:21 (eleven years ago) link

This Funkytown skit must appeal to the world's smallest demographic, to which I belong.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 13 May 2012 04:33 (eleven years ago) link

otm i loved that

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 13 May 2012 04:48 (eleven years ago) link

Could Andy Samberg look and sound less like Nic Cage?

I'm sure Andy Samberg would be upset to learn that he doesn't look or sound like Nicholas Cage, seeing as how doing a note-perfect Nicholas Cage impression is the entire point of Get In The Cage. Rich Little is spinning in his grave.

Bob Bop Perano (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 13 May 2012 04:49 (eleven years ago) link

That's not what I meant. I mean they keep bringing on celebrity guests, so it would be funny if they at least acknowledged his not at all Cage-ness. But even as an exaggerated cartoon version of an exaggerated cartoon person, it's never really worked for me. Doesn't help to have a sleepy, mumbling Liam Neeson on to make Samberg look extra tiny and non-Cage. Like, Bill Hader's Lindsey Buckingham is funny, because it's close enough, and ... anyway, I'm babbling a little. I just thought it was really shitty, boring, not funny, poorly performed, etc., this week.

But yeah, Funkytown. Why no robot voice joke?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 13 May 2012 12:05 (eleven years ago) link

Was Jay Pharoah's only appearance this week as a guy in a glittery diaper?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 13 May 2012 12:25 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, it was a very 'blink and you'll miss'em!' episode for about half of the cast this week. I think Nasim and Taran were the only featured players with speaking parts. But they can at least look forward to their extensive guest appearances when Kristen Wiig hosts in 2020.

Bob Bop Perano (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 13 May 2012 12:44 (eleven years ago) link

so is jon hamm just on this show now

is Mick Jagger channeling Richard Ayoade?

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 20 May 2012 03:55 (eleven years ago) link

Not watching, but I just heard about Arcade Fire sporting the red squares. Nice gesture.

Simon H., Sunday, 20 May 2012 04:14 (eleven years ago) link

Mick sang "Last Time" backed by Arcade Fire and now he's backed by the Foo Fighters for a medley. His Steven Tyler impersonation on the last skit was funnier in theory than in practice.

curmudgeon, Sunday, 20 May 2012 04:36 (eleven years ago) link

mick swore.

goole, Sunday, 20 May 2012 04:53 (eleven years ago) link

Ayup.

In other news: ugh, this fucking "song".

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 20 May 2012 04:54 (eleven years ago) link

That blues one about Romney with Jeff Beck was terrible. But now Arcade fire doing She's a Rainbow and Ruby Tuesday for Kristen Wiig's farewell. There's Jon Hamm and Steve Martin and Lorne Michaels

curmudgeon, Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:01 (eleven years ago) link

Kristen Wiig's not dying, right?

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:01 (eleven years ago) link

She was kind of a big deal though

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:01 (eleven years ago) link

In even more news: aww, that was really sweet. Assuming there aren't other cast members on the way out, in which case they got SHAFTED.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:02 (eleven years ago) link

I thought Sudeikis and Samberg were gone as well.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:04 (eleven years ago) link

xp Was she though? I mean clearly Lorne always thought so, but

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:05 (eleven years ago) link

Sudeikis looked fucking pissed. Can't say I blame him, but Lorne got to give his golden girl a hell of a send-off.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:07 (eleven years ago) link

No Sueikis and Samberg are definitely gone. This was standard Lorne, its why Wiig has been allowed to run every half-assed character she's done into the ground. So glad she's gone now.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:08 (eleven years ago) link

I thought Sudeikis and Samberg were gone as well.

Maybe their particular decisions haven't been finalized? The last two digital shorts sure had a feeling of finality about them. But it was weird how absent Sudeikis was if it was his last episode.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:11 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, Samberg kinda got his send-off with those 2 shorts

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:14 (eleven years ago) link

I mean I like Kristen Wiig, but it's just weird is all. When that started I figured like "oh, this will be a nice send-off for Samberg and Sudeikis and Wiig...."

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

Sudeikis got nothing though, and if you go back and watch his face as Lorne comes out, he looks super pissed. I wonder if something else happened, since he was hardly in the episode.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:17 (eleven years ago) link

Whaddayamean Sudeikis got nothing?! He got to be a worker at a fish packing plant! Come on! What a send-off!

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link

I figured that's why Wiig was whispering something to him during that final number. Pretty shitty way to go for such a great member of the cast. Wiig definitely responsible for a lot of the show's popularity over the last half-decade or so, even if I didn't like most of her recurring characters. She's hella talented though, and I've got a lot of love for "Liza Minelli Tries to Turn Off a Lamp".

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:28 (eleven years ago) link

Cosign pretty much all of your post, Gubke. I seriously think Wiig's gonna shine now.

Quiet Desperation, LLC (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:32 (eleven years ago) link

sudekis was emo not mad. that was pretty over the top for being all about wiig though.

bnw, Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:34 (eleven years ago) link

The Hulu edit of this episode will be pretty tiny, given how much too-expensive-to-license music was used in the skits.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:41 (eleven years ago) link

Are formal send offs a regular thing for the bigger names? The last one I remember happening was Phil Hartman's.

Though, tbf, when we look back on the show in time, she'll be regarded on Hartman's level easily.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 20 May 2012 05:45 (eleven years ago) link

"Liza Minelli Tries to Turn Off a Lamp".

This was all-time.
