the restaurant i'm working at has received its first 1 star review!
So I suppose there are positive and negative aspects to having a refined palate. On the one hand, you can truly appreciate an amazing gastronomic experience created by a true artist; on the other, what might simply be a mediocre meal for some becomes a horribly traumatic experience, leaving your taste buds, perhaps even your entire body, crying out in agony and distress.

if yelpers insist on pretending they are Professional Restaurant Critics they need to not open their first paragraphs with "So"

it's funny that she's makes a big deal about how offensive the pasta was because it's not even made in-house, but sourced from a specialty vendor on federal hill, the neighborhood she name-checks for great pasta

I just had a Yelp review removed for violating terms of service. It's a bit suspect as it's a service (not restaurant) who has nearly all 5-star reviews except for one three-star. My review was based on the fact that I tried to contact them several times to get a quote and didn't hear back in two weeks. Yelp said my review 'lacks a firsthand consumer experience'. Well yes, because they failed to let me establish one! The 3-star review is a similar one that said they kept being closed when they went there so had to go elsewhere. I don't care in the slightest about my non-review being removed but I wonder if this store is one of their paid ad accounts.

Calamari appetizer terrible. Overpriced and soup like texture.
Fries were good but great.

how does calamari have a soup-like texture????????????????????

the fries were good, however despite that they were great
― am0n, Monday, 23 April 2012 19:10 (twelve years ago) link
First the bartender kept trying to rip us off, we ordered their smokey burger since everyone raves about it and we order just the burger no fries etc. The plate comes with fries, we do not notice, we eat the burger it was cooked medium well when we asked for medium rare however we let it go because we did not have time to return it and ask for a properly cooked burger.
The bill comes.
A.) We were not charged happy hour prices and when I brought it up to her she is like, oh right I forgot it was happy hour (Yeah right)
B.) She charges us with the fries we did not order nor eat and not only did she charge us for the fries but for the fries fried in duck fat.
... and I really believe it was intentional, so everyone double check your bills.

this asshole had to wait 5 minutes until opening time! can you imagine
I recently visited this establishment with a group of 6 on a Saturday afternoon. We had just been to the service portion of a wedding and were looking to kill time before the reception. It was an incredibly hot day and we had hoofed it to Brewers in quite literally our Sunday Best. We arrived, dripping with sweat and in need of a tasty beer to save our over-heated spirits, at 3:55. Turns out they don't open until 4:00. So we knock anyway thinking any reasonable staff member(s) who values patrons would allow us to at LEAST come in out of the heat and wait the 5 minutes until the bar opens inside...especially since we were clearly not dressed in appropriate hot-as-hell-Saturday afternoon attire. But no, they answer the door, size us up, then tell us to wait outside until they open in 5 minutes.
I was truly shocked. Truly. I had heard nothing but great things about this place and this was definitely not what I imagined my first experience to be. I was also embarassed because I was the one singing their praises to convince this group to make the journey.

Well its a Subway and its pretty clean. While I don't go to Subway that often, I decided to go recently because I got a big booklet of coupons in the mail. Armed with my "Buy a 30oz drink, get a 6in flatbread for $1" coupon, I walked in and ordered a roast beef sandwich. I presented the cashier my coupon and...."oh we don't take coupons here."
I understand if the place doesn't want to take coupons... but it would have been nice to have a sign or something so I would know before I got to the cashier.
As for the food, its Subway. It was the first time however I tried the flatbread....and I don't think ill ever order a flatbread from Subway again. Stick with the real bread.

making fresh pasta is really time-consuming. i wouldn't blame most restaurants for outsourcing the job.

Our entree's were really tasty. My girlfriend ordered the risotto and I had a pasta with Pancetta that would have made Chef Boiardee look like a shit-head. I would like to come back and try the Coho Salmon. If anyone has had it there you have to let me know how it is.

just slap one of those "They hate us on Yelp" stickers on the door and you are immediately insulated from all Yelp reviews through the power of snark.

The wait staff (while very nice) were poor at their job. I had to ask for my water to get filled multiple times; had to ask for the music to be turned down twice and changed because it sounded like a gym; two waitresses with only six people in the whole restaurant and they took forever with everything and didn't remember to check on us.

I think it is okay. It is not that special. It is definitely the place to go in woodbury when you are between the ages of 15-25 (depending on when you leave town ha ha and if you can get out alive). It is kind of a sad existence. I mean socializing between tables. I must have known about three of the waitresses ( some people from woodbury, one of friends wife) here at different times. It makes me depressed to think about it. I have not seen these people for ever now and don't want to see them again. The food is not that good. It is greasy and unhealthy and will probably take a couple years of your life. However, the seats are pretty comfortable. They are open 24 hours too I think.

^^ from way upthread but there is something wonderful about this passage, all the inadvertently revealed discomfort with one's lot in life, the choices one's made, the disquietude with a life of normal, positive social encounters with everyday unglamorous people, and then los blue jeans's display name just aligns with it so perfectly.
