...the bottle down?

re: CRJ - the weird 'think she's a teenager playacting at being older' despite being two years older than me vibe rev was picking up on might be - in part - because the teenpop-pier direction is a newer one for her?

the first album post Canadian Idol iirc was a bit more folk-pop.

and call me maybe started off that way also - as an acoustic number - before Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench) dude pumped it up into disco strings and emo guitars

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 18:54 (1 year ago) Permalink

i dunno, it's as much about the way she looks as what she sings.

as far as "call me maybe" goes, it's the strings that make the song

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:21 (1 year ago) Permalink

V-Car was 21-22 when her big song hit and everyone was shocked by how 'old' she was, so i can see why Jepsen seeming even younger and being 26 is blowing people's minds

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:41 (1 year ago) Permalink

this makes me unspeakably happy

hundreds of people singing along to the earwormiest single of the year (after 'call me maybe' obvs) at the top of their lungs

love it :D

i want a fourth demi album and i want it to be pop/rock/bit of 'every time you lie' soul
the idea of demi doing r&b was nice but the actual result was laughably basic

uberweiss, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:47 (1 year ago) Permalink

still, upon returning to unbroken it was not as bad as i'd remembered. the first six songs are trash but it gets pretty good after that; skyscraper/give your heart a break/fix a heart/in real life especially

uberweiss, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:50 (1 year ago) Permalink

"behind enemy lines" should be her direction if she wants to do r&b

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 09:01 (1 year ago) Permalink

i would never have imagined the lasting influence that pac man championship edition DX would have on the design sensibilities of an entire generation of popular music makers

that sounds like a terrible idea that could be good?

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

So this new Little Boots single, "Every Night I Say A Prayer"

I really like it, it's quite Saint Etienne in places but it seems to obviously pick up from the Beth Ditto/Kim-Ann Foxman solo singles.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 22:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

Old news by now, but that Demi Lovato track posted upthread is surprisingly decent and pretty.

Look at how funky he is! (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 16:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

Machel Montano - Bottle Of Rum

Bulge Pimp (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 21:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

I like Bottle Of Rum (Machel), Gift Of Soca (Bunji) and People's Champion (Benjai) on the 3Zero riddim but none of them quite hits the mark.

Soca 2012 belongs to Nadia Batson, for me:

Nadia Batson track is great for 2:30-3:00. 5:00 is overkill by a significant margin.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 11 May 2012 21:27 (1 year ago) Permalink

It's two songs stuck together!

Just like you, except hot (ShariVari), Friday, 11 May 2012 21:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

Okay, so I've never not liked "Call Me Maybe." I thought it was a fine little song...until tonight when it hit me like a ton of bricks. One of the year's best, no doubt about it.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 12 May 2012 05:27 (1 year ago) Permalink

It has officially not left my head since the first time I heard it.
