Sweet Lady Genevieve & Animal Farm were my 1 & 2 votes. I was hoping they'd both be higher.

listen to the riff.

Hearing that in the HP ad was pretty disconcerting. It was like my cat had run away and appeared in a commercial months later.

fabulous; the song that opened my mind to the genius of this band. They were soooo ahead of the curve, so many times; still can't believe this song came out in 65.

Euler, Friday, 20 April 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

their first gay subtext song...?

heavy is the head that eats the crayons (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 20 April 2012 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

is it? ha, i have no idea what that song is about. but i love it. voted it pretty high I think. mission of burma did a cool version of this back in the 80s. can't find it on youtube tho.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 20 April 2012 19:08 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it's pretty nice, part of the 1000 Years of Music set I think. xp

tylerw, Friday, 20 April 2012 19:08 (eleven years ago) link

Geez, I was sure this would finish in the top ten. What popular songs from Village Green are left?

kornrulez6969, Friday, 20 April 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think any others will make it

iatee, Friday, 20 April 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

I'm hoping for Big Sky.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 20 April 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

Autumn Almanac is so great. the chord structure is stunningly weird and complex, but it sounds so effortlessly catchy.

really marveled at its construction when I sat down to learn to play it

What weird results. There are about 8 ringers left, but as for the rest, I have no idea.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:15 (eleven years ago) link

Catching up...

Always liked the lyrics on "VGPS" more than the music.

"See My Friends" was my #2 for no other reason than I find it seductive as hell. Maybe it's the gay subtext.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

"Autumn Almanac" surprised me most in relistening. Must have just blended in with stuff like "Mr. Pleasant" and "Wonderboy" too much for me in the past, but considering it on its own, I finally realized exactly how good a single it was. Had it number four when I thought originally that it would be in my bottom ten.

timellison, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

This is awesome. I'm still holding out hope for "Wonderboy" -- one of the best songs about new fatherhood ever.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 20 April 2012 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

I always thought Big Sky was the one people would vote for from VGPS, so curious to see if it's upcoming.
