"Computer Love" from this is, as they say, my jam.

i'm sorry, but i'm afraid that "computer love" is my jam. even started a thread about it once. you're gonna have to get another one.

i don't make the rules, i just follow them...

oh wait, i started a thread about the transition from "numbers" to "computer world 2", and how it is the greatest moment of all time. ok, "computer love" can be your jam, then. :)

http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/music-and-live-performance/kraftwerk-catalogue-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8

German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk play eight live performances in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in their first London dates since 2004.

KRAFTWERK - THE CATALOGUE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 is a chronological exploration of the group’s sonic and visual experiments and presents eight classic master works from across their celebrated repertoire with spectacular 3D visualisations and effects.

Combining sound and images, the performances showcase nearly 40 years of musical and technical innovation, including new improvisations, 3D projections and animation. Commencing with Autobahn, each night covers one of Kraftwerk’s groundbreaking studio albums in full and appear in order of their release — Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991) and Tour de France (2003) — alongside additional compositions from their back-catalogue.

Neil S, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:22 (eleven years ago) link

"The Mix" night would be a good, um, mix..

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:27 (eleven years ago) link

aw man, i'd go to all of these Radioactivities

being awake at 7:30 a problem?

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:33 (eleven years ago) link

Tate website crashing more likely to be the issue I would think.

Neil S, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:34 (eleven years ago) link

tried Dusseldorf without any luck - not sure I should even bother trying for these

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

I guess I missed Techno Pop getting released then, weird

albvivertine, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:55 (eleven years ago) link

I'm thinking 8 shows, probably 10k per show (? or is that a wild over-esitmation?) means a fairly good chance, but we shall see.

Neil S, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:55 (eleven years ago) link

10,000 people in the Turbine Hall??

Deafening silence (DL), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:57 (eleven years ago) link

plus kraftwerk.

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 12:58 (eleven years ago) link

When I saw PJ Harvey there a few years ago it was a pretty small audience. More like one thousand, I'd guess.

Electric Café was reissued under this title in 2009.

xxp I'm appalling at judging those kind of space capacities, but I think you could get a lot of people in there...

Neil S, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

never forget 02/22/12

RIP my hopes and dreams

depresso (Z S), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

It's a question of how many people you can safely get in there given the number of exits etc. It's pretty long and very high but not very wide as venues go.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

i'd guess capacity is probably around 2-2.5 thousand.

jed_, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 13:48 (eleven years ago) link

Biggest issue will be the sound, no? When I've seen performances there the echo has been appalling because of the high roof.

The 1986 album is "Techno Pop". It's always been "Techno Pop", okay?

no it was supposed to be techno pop, then it was electric café and then it became techno pop

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 17:16 (eleven years ago) link

Wow. I really wanna see Autobahn or Trance Europe Express - but most people are gonna go for those first aren't they? I just wanna see Kraftwerk actually. I guess it may be easier to try for later nights - or is that not how the website / booking will work. Tactics, anyone?

kraudive, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 17:24 (eleven years ago) link

I expect Computer World and The Man Machine would go before Autobahn.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 17:30 (eleven years ago) link

(cough) Trans.

Anyway, I just really meant - I'm not sure how the site would work. Is it even worth going for the less popular nights? The whole booking system may be busy so I guess I just try for what I really want (with a willing volunteer on another computer trying another night possibly?)

kraudive, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 17:52 (eleven years ago) link

I'm probably going to go for a few nights, and take what I'm given...
