boring voice, no memorable lyrics, boring production, no memorable hooks...it was like a really really basic version of early gucci

i recommend a reassessment

man down (D-40), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:09 (twelve years ago) link

sadly that eloquent defence doesn't convince me

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:28 (twelve years ago) link

he's not an amazing rapper but i think he has a cool delivery. i like the way he hangs on some syllables and spits out others staccato style. a snich uggggggggggggggggggin that's that shit i don't like! >> this song and '3hunna' are constantly playing in my head at the moment. real earworms.

i think its much more difficult to discuss something w/ a person who claims a song w/ a blatant & obviously catchy hook doesnt have hooks

man down (D-40), Saturday, 14 April 2012 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, keef is growing as a rapper, and from "bang" to "3hunna" has show hes thinking like a rapper, and occasionally writes really good & memorable lyrics ~ they'll tighten up as he gets older. but he's also writing amazing & catchy songs

i was at this. so many stories

i don't see the connection b/w keef and gucci

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

keef isn't much as a lyricist right now but his hook are unusual and memorable -- the same can be said for his flow

J0rdan S., Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

i think his flow & all that is pretty basic, although his voice is memorable, but he does have lyrics, they're just spread out b/c of the age thing. 'bullets hot like the sun' 'good loud pack smell like cat piss / hangin out the roof young and reckless' 'she say she love me whatever that is' 'i like my bitch conceited' 'she said sosa i'm a big fan / bitch i'm leanin like a kickstand' these are memorable lines & theres a reason ppl are quoting them all over twitter locally. its those kinds of lyrics ... the whole rakim thing abt taking a phrase that's rarely heard, flip it now its a daily word ... louie is obv a much more developed rapper (hes also 8 years older than keef) so his verses are tightly packed w/ memorable lines like that, where keef's are more spread out. but the seeds of it developing into more are all there: he sounds like himself, hes not packing ungainly phrases together, not biting other people, has an original style.

man down (D-40), Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:29 (twelve years ago) link

plus, and this can't be underrated, he's created incredibly catchy songs. hes not just rapping, he's writing songs

man down (D-40), Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

'war time spark broad day all night'

lol intro

flopson, Sunday, 15 April 2012 03:02 (twelve years ago) link

"u might catch me on pluto, 4 billion miles away"

flopson, Sunday, 15 April 2012 03:03 (twelve years ago) link

more or less

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 05:43 (twelve years ago) link

mike will kills his productions on this

"turn on the lights" is killing me right now -- those keys!!

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 05:43 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, how many Mike Will beats are on this?

Number None, Sunday, 15 April 2012 06:07 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, keef is growing as a rapper, and from "bang" to "3hunna" has show hes thinking like a rapper,

i don't even know what this means

i don't hear how keef's hooks are any catchier or better than any other random mixtape rapper - when i think of a notably great hook i'm thinking ice cream paint job/good fucking night/beamer benz & bentley/silly bitch level catchy. i just don't hear any energy or singularity in keef at all. if i had to write about him i'd be racking my brains trying to come up with a single interesting thing about his music.

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 11:52 (twelve years ago) link

as for future i cannot take any more stoned autotune slow shit so does that dominate the album or not?

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 11:54 (twelve years ago) link

god, listening to "i don't like" again just for you and it's so boring and ponderous and there's absolutely nothing interesting about his timbre or delivery

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 11:57 (twelve years ago) link

the new meek mill is >>>>>>> though

and big krit's "i got this" continues to dominate my life

i'm in pluto
i'm in mars
AT THE SAME DAMN TIME

anyone got production credits for 'pluto'?

gucci gyoza (tpp), Sunday, 15 April 2012 12:21 (twelve years ago) link

feeling the album. good balance of bangers and zoned out garbled space ballads.

I dont know what to tell you lex. I just saw him perform it and people were losing their minds yelling the lyrics. Its a funny concept based around understatement. His vocals have a rawness, an uncensored feel. I explained what I meant by thinking like a rapper above

man down (D-40), Sunday, 15 April 2012 17:10 (twelve years ago) link

lex is just "getting old"

flopson, Sunday, 15 April 2012 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

i'm sorry you don't consider angel haze and lady leshurr to be sufficiently youthful

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

"reckless/cat piss" is a p. cool off-rhyme but "bullets hot like the sun" seems commendable to you d? seriously? you who have probably got one of the biggest rap collections of anybody I know? "she said sosa I'm a big fan/bitch I'm leanin like a kickstand" merits c & p from you? idgi at all, those are just bad. not because they have "bitch" just 'cause it's like bad writing imo

same old song and placenta (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

they're pretty memorable catchphrases... the sorta thing you find yourself mindlessly mumbling - maybe diff than "good writing" in the traditional sense but still effective in its own way

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:58 (twelve years ago) link

Mindless memorable catchphrases are great things but not when you can't outperform big sean let alone soulja boy

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

him and big sean are on pretty different ends of the spectrum

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

big sean is rappy rappy punchlines over pop nonsense... keef is all presence, drawing pop from a rock, convincing you via aura etc

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

personally i've heard that keef tune like once and a half times just purely out of internet boredom and it does get into your head immediately

he seems fun, def better and more switched on than some lucky schmuck fluking a hook, i can easily see the appeal

r|t|c, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:52 (twelve years ago) link

the keef thing is getting ... mighty interesting

An altercation that began inside of the Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., during an opener act at last night’s Meek Mill rap show and ended in front of the venue brought over 20 police officers, one alderman, a district police commander and the fire department to the scene. No arrests were made…
…Joining the numerous officers and an estimated 100 patrons who were hoping to either get back into the venue or get a refund was First Ward Alderman Proco Joe Moreno, accompanied by two community security workers that Moreno had hired out of his own pocket, due to concerns about the background of one of the evening’s artists, Chief Keef, who wears an electronic monitoring bracelet and had been granted permission by a judge to perform. This news of the additional workers had been shared earlier that night by Ronda Locke, 1st Ward Director of Community Outreach, who’d posted a message to the 1st Ward Community on the GGNA message board.
