perilously close to "what the fuck she expect getting drunk in an outfit like that?"

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 06:29 (twelve years ago) link

there are no dangers in the idealised world you're chiding jon for not inhabiting, huh?

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 10:10 (twelve years ago) link

i reallllly like mark s's scenario, it would be a terrific law and order

sure there will always be dangers, but suggesting that the victim of a crime (any crime) was essentially "asking for it" simply by virtue of being in this state wearing that thing is nagl, imo

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:32 (twelve years ago) link

no, but really, the fuck you doing drinking til you black out on St. Patrick's Day wearing a $1300 watch?

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:33 (twelve years ago) link

to be a little more specific, the victim of a violent and intentionally degrading assault

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

being human?

xp

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

not saying it was smart, mind

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

tbf it's very possible to lose your $1300 watch when you're blackout drunk even when you aren't the victim of a violent and degrading assault

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:36 (twelve years ago) link

basically all I'm saying is, if you're gonna go big maybe settle for your $13 watch instead. not that I'm not sorry for the ppl who got mugged.

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:37 (twelve years ago) link

still pretty fucked up to blame the victim, he should be able to wear whatever watch he chooses

you can expect punches, kicks and even worse (frogbs), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

there're degrees btwn 'blame the victim' and 'what the fuck were you thinking', lots of them.

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

Ok just watching that now and, yeah, it's pretty much the plot behind the Seinfeld finale.

no, but really, the fuck you doing drinking til you black out

if we're gonna go that direction imo.

but ppl do it, they wear expensive and sexxxxy shit while doing it, too.

a single goddamn marshmallow fucked me for LIFE (Hunt3r), Saturday, 14 April 2012 15:02 (twelve years ago) link

whether its "right" or "wrong"

it's a dude who
a) Rocks a $1,300 watch when he goes on VACATION
b) Drives an Audi
c) Drinks to blacking out on National "OH BOY I GET TO DRINK IN BARS INSTEAD OF HOME ALONE, SADLY" Day

So all evidence points to him being kind of a dbag, so whatever if homie caught an eyejammie and lost his iPhone.

Frog File Killie (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 14 April 2012 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

haha I wouldn't say "so whatever" necessarily

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Saturday, 14 April 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

being assaulted is p universally a shitty thing

fuck that. assaulting and humiliating rich or "fancy" people isn't any more excusable than assaulting anybody else. so what if he's got an expensive watch on and drives an audi? so what if he's drunk? what was done to this guy is disgusting, as is the callous inaction of passersby.

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

real fancy people def get blackout drunk on St. Paddy's Day

azealia canks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

i don't have a $1,300 dollar watch or an audi. i do have an iphone, as i imagine, do a lot of you. and i've been punched in the face and had my head stomped by assholes for laughs while drunkenly minding my own business. a friend had teeth knocked out during the same assault. wouldn't have been any more excusable, imo, if i'd happened to be a little less poor or a little more douchey*.

* trust me, this is possible.

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

i missed this thread exploding last night and in case was i "blaming the victim". crut was able to get the gist of what i saying:

tbf it's very possible to lose your $1300 watch when you're blackout drunk even when you aren't the victim of a violent and degrading assault

otm, i mean, i get paranoid this next morning about losing ANYTHING after a night out drinking until i can confirm its all there, i can't ever imagine doing it with anything on my person worth over $1300.

"not in any case was i"

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

The victim, wearing a Mountain Dew shirt, crumpled to the sidewalk and hit his head.

While on the ground, the man was set upon by about ten attackers, who stole his Tag Heuer watch, money, iPhone, and keys to his Audi, according to police. The dazed and defenseless victim is also punched, kicked, and even hit with a shoe by several assailants. In a final indignity, the man is “teabagged” by a male attacker.

azealia canks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:12 (twelve years ago) link

i feel like people itt are making a ridiculous jump from my "boy its kinda stupid to wear a $1300 watch out when you plan to get really shitty on St. Patrick's Day" to thinking i meant "he deserved to get the shit kicked out of him and assaulted"

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

xp God may not always protect fools from the consequences of their poor judgement, but the folks who assaulted him are guilty of far worse faults than foolishness. We should all be able to agree about that.

Aimless, Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

well, yeah, otm. at no point was i ever defending the attackers.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:18 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i kind of regret getting all po-faced srs about it, but i have personal feelings re shit like this

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Saturday, 14 April 2012 18:25 (twelve years ago) link

I know a guy in a Mountain Dew shirt getting teabagged is funny in some contexts but I don't really feel right laughing @ this

Yes apparently now any violent crime that involved members of multiple races must now be analyzed and recontextualized to death by the media.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:01 (twelve years ago) link

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

knowing dude was wearing a Mountain Dew t-shirt is somehow simultaneously the most inconsequential and the most crucial detail of this story
