elite white students from Ivy League colleges probably didn't even own hoodies until the trayvon martin disgrace came to light

there'll be a run on hoodies with all these whites wearing them now

horseshoe, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:09 (twelve years ago) link

it does seem bizarre to me that these people don't seem to know that practically every single person under 30 wears a hoodie from time to time

crüt, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:10 (twelve years ago) link

ok let's catch the subtlety here

Yet the wildly popular post-Trayvon hoodie trend also has the ugly whiff of “slumming it”, even of “blacking up”, where decent white folk parade around in public in the get-up of a class of people they have little connection with or knowledge of.

The black social critic LeRoi Jones once described blacking up...

I mean, I was wearing a hoodie on Easter (granted it said "Harvard Glee Club" on it but still)

I think they're able to pretend that hoodies and jackets with hoods on them aren't the same thing

britain's has some weird relationship with hoodies for a while tho

well that narrows it down to only 29 NBA teams (sorry Pacers)

maybe they think "hoodie" means clothes worn in the "hood"

If I wrote an article with the phrase "blacking up" in it repeatedly, I'd sit back and put on my thinking face for a good long while before I sent it to my editor. Maybe I'd light my pipe and go "hmmmmmmmm."

crüt, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:18 (twelve years ago) link

if what this guy says is true then I'm praying so hard for a Juggalo to get murdered

Xerox of Fate, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:23 (twelve years ago) link

If politicians and celebrities are wearing hoodies as a sign of solidarity, sure that comes across as cheap to me and it's on par with a bazillion other little eye-stabbing gestures made by people in the spotlight.

But that has nothing to do with this article which I thank god for, because I've already read it twice for the lols. It's so perfect, the author has to be a fictional character.

Zimmmerman is now taking his cues straight from Sarah Palin's playbook and is "Going Rogue".

well tbf the book he's referencing is still has Jones the author. but it's p funny that he missed the chance to drop "AMIRI BARAKA" in the context of shaming do-gooder liberals acting like they know about black people

goole, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

The guy only has one target - white do-gooder liberals. Every day he reads the headlines and works out how to shape one of them into a hammer with which to bang the same old nail.

Good. Maybe they'll issue a warrant and Zimmerman will be, uh, "shot while escaping" from a US Marshall.

They also said they do not know where Zimmerman is.

“You can stop looking in Florida,” Uhrig told reporters. “Look much further away than that.”

Who the fuck are these alleged ex-laywers?

his being out of the country is a distinct possibility. looking forward to the extradition fight lol

first thing that popped into my head was "Cabo"

Zimmerman can wear a ramen noodle wig and shades in Cabo and everyone will think he's Sammy.

speculation/joeks but if I was him I totally would have left the country. it's his ideal option.

guilty admission: I'm getting to the point where the "ha, in your face conservatards" thrill of an indictment would outweigh the actual sense of justice/relief
