Didn't the Sugarhill Gang kill the Furious Five ?

blunt (blunt), Sunday, 2 October 2005 02:58 (eighteen years ago) link

And then Run Dmc killed the Furious Five.

E. Money Bags (he was a 90s rapper from Queens and made a few records with Nas, CNN/Noreaga, Kool G. Rap) killed some dude and then got killed himself, on order of Kenneth "Supreme" Mcgriff (the Queens kingpin from the Supreme Team who 50 Cent mentioned on his old track "ghetto quaran" and then got shot for "dry snitchin'" and funded Ja Rule's label Murder Inc with his drug money).

Snoop, perhaps..? Although he got away with it.

Jay Z is rumored to have killed someone.

Fat Joe hung out with some really nasty people like Charlie Rock L.D (who ending up serving 20 years or so for murder) and Tony Montana (who's now dead) so it's a possibilty.

There's the very first NYC gangsta/thug rap group Mobstyle, who consisted of the 80s Harlem drug kinpin Azie plus Gangsta Lou, Pretty Tone Capone and Whip Wop who all were known for not fucking around.

Eric B has a very real reputation too (funding early Eric B. & Rakim records via drug money, hanging with killers like Alpo and the original 50 Cent, putting Large Professor of Main Source in hospital and running Kool G. Rap out of NYC to Arizona after Eric B's crew started killing 'G Rap's crew off).

Although, any thug credentials Eric B. has may be nullified by his mock-brawling with Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1997 when he was doing security for Mike Tyson's WWF stint.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 3 October 2005 03:04 (eighteen years ago) link

More seriously, I believe I read someplace, like B-Real's blog or some shit (which I can't find now of course) that B had been pretty heavily involved in gangbanging, and the song "Hand on the Pump" or maybe "How I Could Just Kill a Man" was based on some incident where he shot a guy in self defense, but didn't quite kill him, and ended up doing time on ag assault or similar.

Helpful, eh?

Vanilla Ice killed Robert Van Winkle.

Your father was seduced by the dark side of the Force. He ceased to be Robert Van Winkle and became Vanilla Ice. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. So what I have told you was true . . . from a certain point of view.

Regarding Paul C + Superlover Cee & Cassanova Rud, they were investigated after his murder but nothing ever came of it.

It's generally thought that Paul C's wife had him killed so she could run away with his brother. If i remember right they both disappeared.

If you do a google you can probably turn up that Paul C article where the writer talks to Superlover Cee & Casanova Rud in detail about the murder.

"Do the james" is still one of the heaviest rap records ever. The way Paul C actually managed to improve the "impeach the president" drumbreak..Damn.

I find it hard to believe Schoolly D ever killed anybody. Steady B. however, is a Philly rapper serving a life sentence for murdering a police officer during a botched robbery.

I think Ghostface Killa owned up to a murder in an interview in The Source - but who knows, could all be street cred junk talk.

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 16:45 (eighteen years ago) link

also, Steady B's partner in crime, Cool C, i think is also serving life for being involved in the same heist.

In all serious here, I remember (or maybe it was a joke, or a dream) reading an article about an aspiring yet unsuccessful rapper who murdered and ATE his girlfriend to get a record deal by giving himself a more gangsteresque and certainly violent persona. Does anyone remember hearing about this?

Since Definitive Jux is a haven for unique underground rappers who do not fit in anywhere else, I start the interview by asking him what makes him unique in the rap game.

He is surprisingly circumspect. “A good question… I think I am probably the only rapper right now with a combover, and I think the dress code is a little bit unique. I think most of it is visual. I don’t think I have much to say that is really interesting. But I think I look cool.”
