She's way cuter than Emily.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Emily's cute but she looks old. She looks about 10 years older.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

she's cute if you're into that whole chicks-who-look-like-they-have-a-plethora-of-issues-and-aren't-that-good-inbetween-the-sheets thing.

oops (Oops), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:44 (seventeen years ago) link

You can look at a woman and tell how good she is? I would think that would be rather intimidating.

"Um, hello..." noticious that she's a love-hungry animal with a rapacious hunger for manflesh... "Ms. Albright, how are you..."

shes super tiny in person. i saw her looking super depressed with giovanni ribisi a couple months ago.

Has she ever been in an even semi-halfway-decent movie tho?

Abbott (Abbott), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 15:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Zooey or Michelle?

Michelle was in Brokeback Mountain.

Zooey was in All the Real Girls and Elf.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 15:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I ment Zooey...Elf was good, I forgot about it.

She has bad fashion sense, I hate all that BCBG shit.

Abbott (Abbott), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

She was in The Good Girl (one of those very-well-made-but-will-never-watch-again-because-WTF) and Hitchhiker's Guide... (A++++ comedy, will watch again).

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 16:17 (seventeen years ago) link

She did that other movie with Will Ferrell that was too long n' slow but it could've been real good.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

she was also in 'failure to launch' which is not such a bad movie (well, better than i had any expectations of), though partly b/c she's in it

I've met her, she's tiny and fine featured, but not perfectly pretty which is kind of hot. EXCELLENT singer, and quite friendly and seems smart.

I.M. From Hollywood (i_m_from_hollywood), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 21:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, she's pretty but not intimidatingly so. Actually yes, I would be intimidated, but y'know what I mean.

If she's tiny, her mom must be an elf:

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 21:26 (seventeen years ago) link

That's because the Deschanel family was originally bred on shelves.

Abbott (Abbott), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 23:14 (seventeen years ago) link

She's ok but she's no Maggie Gyllenhaal.

C'mon, Alfred...Maggie G may be an excellent actor but girl is purty homely. Nay - ugly. Zooey D is gorgeous.

zooey is pretty in a spooky kinda way, maggie g is sorta cute and appealing but not pretty. jake always seems to be described as "dreamy" - that seems just about right.

If she's tiny, her mom must be an elf

Her mom was Eileen Hayward on Twin Peaks, the wheelchair-bound mother to Donna (Lara Flynn-Boyle).

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

one month passes...
So she's slated to play Janis Joplin in the new biopic,
"The Gospel According To Janis." I've never heard her
sing, but I'm hopeful that she has a killer voice.
After all, Pink was bypassed for the role and she's
an excellent Joplin interpreter.
Does anyone have a link to Deschanel's singing?

showed up in the last few episodes of the excellent season 2 of Weeds and will be a regular for at least the first few episodes when season 3 rolls around.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:44 (seventeen years ago) link

That's weird about Janis. I really wish they wouldn't insist on picking an exceptionally pretty woman to play a plain, dare I say homely singer.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, no. You should dare.

I think that if she can channel the feeling that Janis showed during the Dick Cavett interview where she said "I'm going home" in a defiant yet still hurt way when talking about going to her high school reunion, she will have nailed it.

It will be interesting to see how they balance the life story and the music aspect of it. Unlike Ray and Walk the Line, I would argue that Janis' story would be more interesting WITHOUT the music playing a central part. Maybe some formative stuff, like when she learned to sing, but Janis was a soul singer...all emotion. Imitating her singing would accomplish little, I think.

she still looks like herself, and she looks good, but i think the bangs are an iconic look and if i were her i'd stick with them

it really is kinda nuts how different she looks without bangs. there's one New Girl episode where she models at a car show and her hair is done up in a weird way that makes her look dramatically different.

seeing her forehead is like seeing any other woman having a wardrobe malfunction, where you feel a little self-conscious like 'am i supposed to be seeing this?'
