I love the weird anti-logic of it, wherein benefit of the doubt can be invoked to justify the worst, least likely option, beginning with the presumption/concession of homophobia and racism then working its way up from there. On a more positive note, I was having lunch today at the local lol food court, and at the next table were two old white guys, both over 60. I heard them start discussing the case and braced myself, and to my surprise they were both like, "Yeah, if I was out walking and somebody was following me around in a car, I'd probably jump him too. And the police never took this guy to the hospital for a supposed broken nose?" etc., etc. Kinda refreshing.
