New Moomin EP is really good, a nice follow-up to his full-length from last year (one of my favorite electronic full-lengths of the year for sure):

the todd terje remix of joakim in this beats in space mix is amazing. and it's one of tim's best mixes in a while as a whole, lots of great stuff in there.

midland's placement ep on aus music is so gorgeous. TEXTURES <3
one of those awesome techno releases that sounds just as good soothing your hangover as in a club

That todd terje remix of joakim's nothing gold is out today and it's great.

On the assumption that the board will figure out what I'm trying to do here...
Rivet - Metrist
Dj Pierre - ACiD (Pierre's ACiD FACE Mix)

its obvious, you are creating a new kind of personality test. sad indie types will click on the b/w photo while well-adjusted people will be drawn to the bold colors of the pierre album and click on that.
you know i'm not much one for boys noize or the whole post-oizo farty french scene but can i just say that BNR TRAX has just been consistently awesome since day 1?
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:50 (1 year ago) Permalink
ah, my previous post was slightly more ambiguous than I intended. I wasn't sure if I'd need to do anything more than paste the youtube links in.
I'm not familiar with the rest of bnr trax's output. Anything that you can recommend?
― neilasimpson, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:02 (1 year ago) Permalink
yep ... strip steve & das glow, bobmo, shadow dancer, audionite, etc
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:08 (1 year ago) Permalink
also like para one a lot
you know me though
i'm all about bangers
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:11 (1 year ago) Permalink
there was one really good boys noize thing that was blatantly meant to be a roulé tribute, from the titles etc.

boys noize the artist?
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:17 (1 year ago) Permalink
can't remember for certain but think "puzique" is him...
this one isn't really daft punky but just remembered what a total banger it is...
― I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:19 (1 year ago) Permalink
oh yeah puzique is a team-up of boys noize and DIM
you're talking about the THOMAS (bangalter) EP?
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:30 (1 year ago) Permalink
the second one sounds like bangalter too
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:31 (1 year ago) Permalink
alternately could have posted "outrage" or "de-rezzed" i guess
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:32 (1 year ago) Permalink
yeah it is a little like "outrage" i guess to be fair.

man me neither but I like this new one with Erol Alkan
― dmr, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:50 (1 year ago) Permalink
sometimes I think I really like Boys Noize but sometimes I think his stuff is just horrible distorted frankenhouse crap, guy is so inconsistent.
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:03 (1 year ago) Permalink
the whole scene is like that imo, and its a pain because that stuff sounds like crap mixed w. more trad bobbins so dudes end up playing like a straight hour of it
nice to see labels like BNR trax, marble players, sound pellegrino etc taking it back in a more bobbins-friendly direction
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:08 (1 year ago) Permalink
Yeah, the stuff Boys Noize does with Erol is a lot more Alkany than the usual BN schtick. I don't think it's that BN is inconsistent so much as he's really affected by who he's working with.

xpost i think one time you called that overdriven french synth sound "ear-raping nanobots" (w/ negative connotation), always thought it was a very appropriate turn of phrase
― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:14 (1 year ago) Permalink
ha hahahahahha erm, that's not ~exactly~ how I put it, but hahahaha um, yeah.

― the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:25 (1 year ago) Permalink
I remember really liking all the singles in the run-up to the first BN album, and all the remixes, but just getting a headache trying to listen to the album. "Adonis" is a great single which piqued my interest again, but all the Alkan collabs have been so face-meltingly generic in the worst way that I'm not wanting to dive in again.
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 22:29 (1 year ago) Permalink
puzique is BN & DIM
suite 9 & don't go are both classics

the kong oscar record is great - only 200 released tho, not easy to get hold of
frankfurt sessions is good too

I've got the Maya Jane Coles DJ-Kicks on, bit too tasteful/polite for me.
― Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:41 (1 year ago) Permalink
i'm listening to it for the first time, was expecting to dislike it, based only on the sources and tone of the hype i'm hearing about her, but actually i really like it. is it polite? i have it on *really loud* since i'm home alone in the middle of the day and it kinda kicks actually, some of the beats are pretty tough despite the frippery on top
― the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 20:51 (1 year ago) Permalink
ok man you're totally nuts, this gerry read / t williams / marcel dettmann bit at the end is totally rugged
4.5 / 5

Love MJC, looking forward to hearing the mix.
― Tim F, Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:46 (1 year ago) Permalink
it's really really really good
it does take awhile to warm up and there is some tubular bells type mellowness upfront but around the fifth track it starts to get jacking and gets more and more jacking until the end
this is probably my favorite commercial mix i've heard since the elijah and skiliam rinse thing and i keep up on that stuff
― the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:54 (1 year ago) Permalink
that's probably not a good comparison
was trying to think of what traditional house mix i've enjoyed this much and i had to go back kind of far, maybe motor city drum ensembles dj kicks, but that's not as housey. the middle of this is really jacking, reminds me of labels like classic but with a lot more space and swing in the beats

Folks, check out Ghilbi: http://ghibli.bandcamp.com/album/2011
I'd love to hear thoughts about this dude.
― heiswagger (rennavate), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:10 (1 year ago) Permalink
DL'ed the Ghilbi thing awhile back, dude really needs to take it easy with the harsh eq's and dynamics processing. There are some cool ideas on the album but it's impossible to listen to because it's brickwalled to shit.
― All Flowers Must Fade, Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:33 (1 year ago) Permalink
what is brick-walled?
― the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 23:32 (1 year ago) Permalink
i am assuming it means the waveform is one huge solid rectangle because its what it sounds like, and i agree, the idea seems pretty good if basic (its just bangalter-style filter house?) but i just want to turn it off
― the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 23:38 (1 year ago) Permalink
brickwalled usually means compressed so that everything is max volume and/or clipping all over the place
― mh, Thursday, 12 April 2012 23:43 (1 year ago) Permalink
btw audible clipping... well, I am sure it has been used as snd or Mark Fell solo or someone else as a cool effect, but it is bullllshiiiit
That's a fair point about the Ghibli. All of it is sampled from YouTubes, which is probably a big reason for its shitty mastering.
