the pinnacle of horror cinematography is far far superior to the pinnacle of comedy cinematography

you can't add to the spreadsheet, post here and eric will add them

B+ trolling, but shitty tech qualities actually HELP many horror films... early Romero, Cronenberg before he moved to the adults' table, etc.

have no prob w/ MPD psycho being dropped from the list
Glad to see people repping for Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Not sure if people will allow Teshigahara's adaptation of Abe's Woman in the Dunes?
― etc, Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:04 (twelve years ago) link
I saw a "live" performance of Carnival of Souls where they had musicians, voice actors and a foley artist on stage below the projection, replacing all the sound. A vast improvement tbh!

the lipsync was prolly better
I will even rep for tetsuo II: body hammer!
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:06 (twelve years ago) link
Hard to add to Edward III's list, but Moju/Blind Beast & Kurosawa's Throne of Blood probably qualify.

A miniseries is still a series! There is no way you can get around the fact that it just isn't a film.
― emil.y, Thursday, April 5, 2012 10:46 AM (21 minutes ago)
kind of a pedantic point imo, also that means no salem's lot unless you're gonna be like "I'm voting for the international theatrical cut!"
that said I don't really care all that much either way, I've already got more shit than my ballot can hold

I wasn't completely joking when I said elsewhere that It's Alive 3: Island of the Alive should be nominated. It's hugely entertaining.

New Zealand has a depressing history of wannabe filmmakers attempting to recreate the Peter Jackson origin story and failing miserably.
OTOH Aussie film has Wake in Fright, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Night of Fear, & Body Melt.
Does Bava's Planet of the Vampires count as horror, or is it too sci-fi?

ahahaha DEVIL DOG
not voteworthy, but it scared the hell out of me and my brother one sunday afternoon. I could tell that it was a horrible movie, but still effective like most horror on TV during those still summer afternoons when the cicadas are shrill.

can I take a moment to rep for coffin joe's comeback movie, embodiment of evil? one of the most gonzo horror films of the past decade. the trailer makes it look more grueling than it actually is, there's a comic book zaniness that lightens the proceedings (tho I guess you should keep in mind happiness was my #2 vote in the comedy poll). trailer nsfw to the 10th power.

my fave underrated flick there is prolly tsukamoto's gemini, he did the tetsuo films. I was on the fence about nominating another movie by him, a snake of june, not really horror but super creepy in a cronenbergian way. almost anything by tsukamoto is worth watching.
