i'm so glad they found each other

omg that's hilarious

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 13:18 (twelve years ago) link

disgusting status savagery: daily updates like "hi my food blog for today: pears, feta cheese, lettuce, noodles, some soup, crackers and 2 apples. More tomorrow". hiding's too good for them.

stet, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 10:16 (twelve years ago) link

stet, can I add you on facebook? I have some important meal updates for you.

mh, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 13:59 (twelve years ago) link

If stet wants to take this over, I'd be happy to fork over the un and pw.

"Note: If you chose to use this option to include or exclude specific people from seeing your post, then only "Custom" will show next to your post. People will not be able to see the individuals you specified."

I was told by a friend that he WAS able to see the specified friends... Is this possible? Am I doing something wrong? I really don't want people to see this. Why is facebook so difficult and frustrating?

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 03:05 (eleven years ago) link

that would suck! but i didn't even know people could see whether it was custom or not. i'm checking right now and every "custom" i'm coming across, i can't see any specific names.

but more importantly

friends told me they could see who it was shared with when they clicked on the "time" it was posted ("8 minutes ago" or whatever)

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

still not seeing any names

JIM THOMETHEUS (zachlyon), Monday, 23 April 2012 03:40 (eleven years ago) link

i've noticed this happens sometimes - my guess would be that if you use a custom list, it just says custom, but if you pick actual names to show it to, it shows there names.

just1n3, Monday, 23 April 2012 03:50 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it's a custom list with 15 people.. when my friends clicked on the time to view the individual post, one of my friends said "it looks like youre sharing it with 8 people" so some of them are visible.. someone else said it was suggesting friends based on who i shared it with. it's possible that this happens more often when a custom list includes fewer people. either way, i hate them.

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 03:58 (eleven years ago) link

them = facebook

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 04:01 (eleven years ago) link

sneaky fuckers facebook are.

they define "sneaky."

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 04:06 (eleven years ago) link

My custom list is an exclude rather than include (as thats how they used to do it), "show to friends except [LIST]". Seems to work fine, no ones said they see names.

i see... that makes sense.. i might have to re-work how it's set up, thx

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 04:13 (eleven years ago) link

If you can still do it that way, I dunno tbh! That was from before they intro'ed the "groups" thing,. Im not sure I can even edit my older filters anymore. Im too scared to try in case I break something (100% of my posts are filtered).

fix it with like some music glue (Trayce), Monday, 23 April 2012 05:05 (eleven years ago) link

i just set up a new account just to try it out, and from what i can now tell, hovering over the "gear" icon is revealing every name who i'm sharing with. it does not say "custom."

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 05:38 (eleven years ago) link

also facebook doesnt let you only "exclude" lists... if you try to do that it defaults your post to "only me" so that you are forced to choose a list.

so i set up a list that includes all of my friends, and excluded certain groups, but it made no difference.. it still lists every name in the audience.

billstevejim, Monday, 23 April 2012 05:44 (eleven years ago) link

Hm, it did (does?) for me, but I'd have to check when I get home, I cant fart about on FB too much when at work , I'll get in trouble :(

Basically, Facebook, the "MySpace" for posh students only...

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Monday, 23 April 2012 06:00 (eleven years ago) link

I just noticed that the hover text on 'Unfollow post' when you comment on a status update has the rather odd wording...

"You are currently receiving notifications for this item because you own it."

Is this just Facebook trying to be funny?

A weekend ago there was some big festival down the street at the park and on the walk over there were little kids selling lemonade, saying it was to stop Kony. My friend said "Yeah, I'm only going to buy your lemonade if you get to keep the money, not some internet jerk."

two weeks pass...

More than a third of divorce filings last year contained the word Facebook, according to a survey by Divorce Online, a UK-based legal services firm.

has facebook changed its font or something? every time i'm looking at my feed right now it looks slightly different and i can't really pinpoint why. also most of my friends see absolutely no difference so it might just be me needing to get an eye check

Jibe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 08:26 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, font is bouncing about all over the place. suspect a/b testing going on or something.

stet, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 08:38 (eleven years ago) link

thx for confirming that

there is a weird bug where if you use a profile pic that you uploaded in the pre-timeline-era as your default, it uses the 50p x 50p thumbnail and stretches it out and looks all shitty in the bigger thumbnail at the top of your page

So I mute Facebook friends who post overtly racist and homophobic stuff. This includes most, but by no means all, of the really noisy Republican crowd -- Facebook seems to have decided that I just don't want to hear any right wing US politics at all. All sorts of friends ranted about the health care decision as the end of liberty, and none of it showed up unless I went to the profiles. I don't like this, and wonder if Tea Party types are similarly being put by Facebook into endless feedback loops.

i rtecently went on vaca with someone, they took some pics including some of me which they tagged

none of this shows up in my feed, i have to go to their profile to see it
