Mac hasn't really changed. One thing I admire is the flexibility of his rap skills and that is what's on display here rather than a complete genre flip. He can dive into a chill introspection, as he does quite often on this tape, or blast the kind of ego-driven power in songs like Loud/Smile Back/Party on 5th Ave. Quite frankly both are pretty fucking awesome. Overall Macadelic blows my mind. If Blue Slide Park was a commercial assembly of pop then Macadelic is a progressive concept album

Yeah, I actually am starting to kind of like Mac Miller. Macadelic is pretty good. What's happening to me...

bass, Monday, 2 April 2012 15:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

dre's verse sounds SO much like a typical kendrick verse it's great

bass, Monday, 2 April 2012 15:04 (1 year ago) Permalink

that's kinda why i don't like the song -- it's pretty distracting

i guess it's not a huge deal now since it's no secret that dre doesn't write but i think part of good ghostwriting is not making it incredibly obvious that the rapper didn't write what he's rapping. dre doing kendrick karaoke is not what's up.

J0rdan S., Monday, 2 April 2012 15:53 (1 year ago) Permalink

looking forward to the 2035 box set of Detox sessions where you can trace Dre's ghostwriter karaoke through whoever was hot at the time from one year to the next

sisilafami, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:08 (1 year ago) Permalink

To be honest I'm really quite surprised that at this point Dre doesn't just write his own verses... like he's been around rappers for twenty years... you seriously can't write your own 16 by now? Just get some fucking editing/someone to look over your shit, erase the whack shit and give you some hot lines to add...

"I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Monday, 2 April 2012 17:17 (1 year ago) Permalink

but why would he want to?

To avoid doing Rapper Karaoke? I dunno.

I like this song

D-40, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

great beat

D-40, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

Dre started with Cube writing his verses and his talent pool has only gotten wider since then. i don't think Dre is denying the world anything by not honing skills as a lyricist but at the same time yeah maybe he should just get off the mic, noone gives a fuck.

some dude, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

you guys like that new Zilla tape?

I've always loved Dre as a vocal presence, but I'm well past the point of caring what he does. Weirdly, "Kush" was one of the most-played songs on the radio here last year. I got the impression it wasn't that big of a deal in most locales. Does sound hella good on the radio tho.

really like the starlito.

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 10:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

yeah, it's my favourite thing of his since Renaissance Gangster. Low key raps + Burn One = a winning formula

Number None, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:12 (1 year ago) Permalink

the joint just tagged 'produced by coop' is my fav so far

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:39 (1 year ago) Permalink

Am I the only one thinking that Renaissance Gangster was too chill, too much burn one ?

Here there's just the right amount of variety between beats, like on stepbrothers, and lito always manage to sound good wathever the beat is.
