did anyone download the remix of 'climax' that was on their soundcloud for a while? i came home looking forward to it after a weekend of only phone internet access, and then it was GONE.

I recorded the Climax remix before it got taken down. I've never uploaded anything but here goes nothing, hopefully Funkystepz don't have a problem with me uploading this here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yd4yn3aztbv8vvy . As Benny mentioned over on dissensus, they've hit this sweet spot between UK Funky and UK Garage, their recent remixes (and everything else they've done) has been so good. Everybody be sure to pick up the Royal Rumble EP on Monday, you won't be disappointed!

thanks!

they've hit this sweet spot between UK Funky and UK Garage,

This is a pretty spot on description of their current sound.

Dunno how to do the drudge siren but if I did it would be in full effect right now.

"warrior" is such a banger but i always prefer their remixes to their instrumental tunes (same goes for ill blu too)

lex pretend, Monday, 2 April 2012 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

apart from "we found love" which not even funkystepz could salvage

lex pretend, Monday, 2 April 2012 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

I think this is their strongest EP yet.

Even though "Jigga" is a bit "I see what you did there" it's hard not to love their sheer gumption - who else would even attempt it?

Tim F, Monday, 2 April 2012 21:23 (twelve years ago) link

oh man "jigga" is fantastic

J0rdan S., Monday, 2 April 2012 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:36 (twelve years ago) link

This entire 20 April 2011 Marcus Nasty / Shanti / Rankin set is epochal, lifechanging etc, but the bit you want is from 65:55:

the handclaps as snare rush make me so ridiculously happy

as does the way every moment of climax is punctuated, inexorably, with ".......FUNKYSTEPZ!"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 13:17 (twelve years ago) link

i dont remember where i heard this, but goes like this "music is my life.. all i need's a mic & a rhyme"

Available for download, Funkystepz's trap remix of D'Banj's Oliver Twist:
http://soundcloud.com/funkystepzuk/dbanj-oliver-twist-funkystepz
Funkystepz have mentioned in interviews that they want to expand beyond UK Funky in 2012 and do Miami Bass, R&B, hip-hop, etc.
Found this also, coming out at the end of the month, Funkystepz remix of Rebecca Ferguson, straight R&B:
http://www.djcity.co.uk/digital/rebecca-ferguson-glitter-gold-funkystepz-remix---23794.htm
Anybody by chance record this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01g9g9v? I really want to hear 'Preeya Kalidas — Love Between Us (Funkystepz Miami Bass Mix). I like the original and FS's Miami Bass remixes have been great, hope this is no exception.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 20:05 (twelve years ago) link

interesting. you work for auntie i presume?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks, trace and rtc! I do hope as FS evolve and expand into other areas that they don't completely abandon their signature bubbly, hyper-colorful, intricately convoluted Funky/Garage sound, because there's no one I'm aware of to fill that void.

incredible!

boxedjoy, Monday, 21 May 2012 10:11 (eleven years ago) link

I wish they'd done a little more with "Oliver Twist" but I feel ridiculous even saying anything negative about such a horn o' plenty

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 21 May 2012 11:18 (eleven years ago) link

agree but then it's probably about a year before everyone's up to the time with afro

three weeknd remixes? :/

The Reverend, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:25 (eleven years ago) link

three weeknd remixes? :)

I'm on my fourth download attempt, fingers crossed.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:50 (eleven years ago) link

OK, Vybz Kartel remix much better than any of the Weeknd remixes. The pitched up Buju, ehh.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 13:39 (eleven years ago) link

Now I'm trying to figure out which one of their Rihanna remixes are superior.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:01 (eleven years ago) link

cake

The Reverend, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, that Cake remix. This whole collection is super generous and awesome!

Does anyone know the significance of the titles (Miami Bass vs. Loveshy) btw?

MikoMcha, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

Yes! Love that Buju Banton remix, brilliant that one, as are they all, including the Rudekid remix they just put out. I wouldn't think the Weeknd (or Bruno Mars for that matter) would be the best material for them to remix, but I think they all work, love the dark garage vibe of those. Ridiculous how many good tunes Funkystepz have amassed.

No I don't, and I haven't listened to it yet (dl it at work). But a huge part of me wishes that Loveshy takes its inspiration from Kristine Blond's "Love Shy", the Club Asylum remix of which is one of my all time favourite pieces of music ever.

Also,

I actually assumed this and feel likewise.

yeah i assume that too

massive lol @ how they pitch drake's voice to sound like some sort of gremlin on "the motto" remix

the "oliver twist" one is a bit pointless though
