Heh, I'm going to Berlin for the first time in about a month, was sort of wondering about that. How late into the afternoon do things run; i.e. does it make sense to just get up early and make it there for 10 AM?

for sure. (from what I've read)

Hey neilasimpson-

This was some time ago (2006) but I was able to get the schedule for the performers at Berghain from the Hardwax record store earlier that day. I remember there were flyers available for the night in question. I also asked one of the people behind the counter and he seemed to know all about it.

llooped, Friday, 30 March 2012 21:03 (2 years ago) Permalink

maybe if you go to hardwax you can ask dettmann in person

^^ pro tip

If you want to visit record stores in Berlin, I'd totally recommend Spacehall, they have tons of cool stuff, especially if you want dig into older house/techno/trance/ambient. It's absolutely the best electronic music record store I've ever seen (Hardwax was a disappointment compared to it), everytime I've been to Berlin I've spent like 100-200 euros just there.

voices from the lake is a trip ... it's like four bars of acid house stretched out to six or eight minutes in a way that sometimes sounds like kompakt (prologue is german, right?) and sometimes sounds like pacou

the late great, Saturday, 31 March 2012 07:26 (2 years ago) Permalink

at the same time it also has this really awful world music / hippie drum circle thing happening on some tracks and it doesn't help that the background drones sound like digital didgeridoo after awhile

i get the same gross feeling i get when i listen to shackleton's vocal tracks (gregorian chant dubstep)

the late great, Saturday, 31 March 2012 07:28 (2 years ago) Permalink

talking of shackleton, is his fabric mix worth listening to? I found it on the floor outside shoreditch high street overground station last year, nevery put it on yet.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Saturday, 31 March 2012 08:06 (2 years ago) Permalink

you should put it on next time you are "vibing out" "d-_-b"

the late great, Saturday, 31 March 2012 08:11 (2 years ago) Permalink

Berghain posts the lineup (and start times) on their website, but maybe only closer to the date in question? And you're definitely better off trying to get in on Sunday morning (although I haven't tried it personally).

Cosign on Tuomas' Spacehall recommendation, if you're looking for two hundred 90's techno compilations you've never heard of before, that's the place.

big deal that's what my closet looks like

the late great, Saturday, 31 March 2012 09:16 (2 years ago) Permalink

ok, thanks! for all of your advice re berghain (and berlin).

"o_O at someone going to Berghain wanting to know exactly what time a specific DJ is coming on."

Basically, I'm well fussy about my techno, plus, I've seen Dettmann a few times now in Glasgow and am keen to see him specifically at Berghain, hence my hunt for specific info. I've heard his sets can be pretty legendary.

I had thought about trying hardwax so will do so if the info doesn't appear on the berghain page.

"Heh, I'm going to Berlin for the first time in about a month, was sort of wondering about that. How late into the afternoon do things run; i.e. does it make sense to just get up early and make it there for 10 AM?"

My understanding is that it runs from 23.59 on the Friday right through to some point on Sunday night. The main room was relatively empty on the Sunday morning but the panorama bar was pretty rammed. Advice from locals when I was there in October last year was that 6am is the time to go.

my fav from the voices from the lake album is meikyu

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 31 March 2012 11:28 (2 years ago) Permalink

wait a second ... five DJs play for almost 48 hrs? even given it's berghain that can't be right, can it?

the late great, Saturday, 31 March 2012 17:39 (2 years ago) Permalink

That's just the Saturday line-up above. They have another line-up for the Sunday. Not sure when the transition is, however. Doubtful it's midnight.

neilasimpson, Saturday, 31 March 2012 17:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

oh that makes a lot more sense

New Moomin EP is really good, a nice follow-up to his full-length from last year (one of my favorite electronic full-lengths of the year for sure):

the todd terje remix of joakim in this beats in space mix is amazing. and it's one of tim's best mixes in a while as a whole, lots of great stuff in there.

neilasimpson, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:26 (2 years ago) Permalink

its obvious, you are creating a new kind of personality test. sad indie types will click on the b/w photo while well-adjusted people will be drawn to the bold colors of the pierre album and click on that.

you know i'm not much one for boys noize or the whole post-oizo farty french scene but can i just say that BNR TRAX has just been consistently awesome since day 1?

the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 19:50 (2 years ago) Permalink

ah, my previous post was slightly more ambiguous than I intended. I wasn't sure if I'd need to do anything more than paste the youtube links in.

I'm not familiar with the rest of bnr trax's output. Anything that you can recommend?

neilasimpson, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:02 (2 years ago) Permalink

yep ... strip steve & das glow, bobmo, shadow dancer, audionite, etc

also like para one a lot

you know me though

i'm all about bangers

the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:11 (2 years ago) Permalink

there was one really good boys noize thing that was blatantly meant to be a roulé tribute, from the titles etc.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:16 (2 years ago) Permalink

boys noize the artist?

the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:17 (2 years ago) Permalink

can't remember for certain but think "puzique" is him...

this one isn't really daft punky but just remembered what a total banger it is...

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:19 (2 years ago) Permalink

oh yeah puzique is a team-up of boys noize and DIM

you're talking about the THOMAS (bangalter) EP?

the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:30 (2 years ago) Permalink

the second one sounds like bangalter too

the late great, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 20:31 (2 years ago) Permalink

alternately could have posted "outrage" or "de-rezzed" i guess
