thx for the pleasant words, jjjusten, esp since in my pre-senility or general drunkenness I don't remember the FAP we met. At.

I am not cynical.

I am admittedly vicious when I feel I have been pricked, but then I never claimed to be more than a lousy Christian.

I do NOT believe ppl should get more leeway on the Web than in "real life," which is why I don't want to meet Jesse either. (thx for using my real name too. I didn't know you've loathed me since the last time I was in Chi, which is like 4-5 years)

It was at some patio in NYC w laurel and ally and vic? Plus others and there were vague attempts made to make it to a boredoms show but instead my (future) wife and I got shithoused and ended up walking back to park slope for like 5 hours totally lost. Either that or some other nice dude in NYC is prob still confused as to why some hammered asshole kept referring to him as dr. Morbius every so often in a bar, which is more possible than I would like to admit.

Isn't The General one of at two with train tricks? The train tricks are cool. Morbs is cool too. This post is really cool:

strongo what are you gonna do when yer 80? yer like jerry garcia singing black peter when he was 30. just you wait! man yer gonna be a cranky raisin!

morbs is way too defiantly consistent to feel toxic or negative to me; if i get insulted by morbs for making light of bob hope i don't feel shocked and betrayed any more than he does. when he stalks out of a thread it might feel more like Drama if he ever made any attempt to convince anyone he won't be back+welcomed after lunch. sometimes shtick shades into real fighting but that happens with almost every person on this board/planet. plus (as horrified as he'd profess to be to be lumped with a josie-voter) we share several comedy ballot picks and a last name.

I haaaaaaaaaaate needless life-drama MORE THAN ANYTHING ON EARTH. I've dropped friends over it. They were like Je55e.

:O

jjj, the infamous outdoor line to nowhere at 7/7/07? I might've met you there, but as soon as none of us (except JonW) got in, I lost everybody and went home, no bars. So it was probably someone else.

Je55e's drama is fine IRL. When he gets out of line we just punch him in the head.

Jeff, Friday, 30 March 2012 12:01 (twelve years ago) link

Just as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog != Robert Smigel, I'm pretty confident that "Dr. Morbius" != Bi11 W3b3r. I wkiw Morbs anytime I visit NYC. Frankly I wish he would post more/longer on movies as I think he has real insights that we don't get to see, and he may be an even bigger Spielberg stan than I am.

hah this is an amazing post

It's the Cycle of Morbs (Morbstruation?):

Dr. Morbius ramps up the snippy, mean, name-calling, insulting posts.
People get annoyed and call him out (or he gets SBed).
If he's still around, he makes some self-effacing comments but never actually apologizes or acknowledges being a utter jerk.
Everybody falls all over themselves to pat Morbs on the head reassuringly and talk about how much they love his irascible on-line persona or how he's actually different IRL.

carl agatha, Friday, 30 March 2012 14:08 (twelve years ago) link

Hahaha obv we need independent conformation to solve this mystery. I think it was before people even headed to the show iirc. Maybe that helps? Although now I am afraid that laurel etc are going to show up and say wtf I have never met you freak and ilx is going to intervention me.

torture prom (jjjusten), Friday, 30 March 2012 14:22 (twelve years ago) link

that owl!
I love Morbs, ESPECIALLY if he said true Keaton fans prefer Sherlock Jr. to the General!!! (have not read that thread bcz it poll results are such timesucks)

I've got a lot to post in the elevator today.

It's the Cycle of Morbs (Morbstruation?):

If he's still around, he makes some self-effacing comments but never actually apologizes or acknowledges being a utter jerk.

+ self-pity and martyr poses at being called out

Which leads to the last step.

My beef is that there is no other person here who even touches his consistent level of ugliness.

Overall, ILX has a pretty KIP vibe.

His "schtick" is more at home on SA or some parts Reddit - and at least there he would be downvoted to oblivion.

every time I'm in NY & I see there's a movie I'm interested I think about hitting up Dr. M to jaw about stuff & then I remember that recreational hangin-out is p. much off the menu for me when I'm up there. However I did take a night to go see End of the Rainbow last week + it cost stupid money so everybody respect my Garland fanhood, I love her more than yall, the end
