Yeah, I must be an idiot but I keep looking through the thread and not seeing it? I see the Marquee Club one, but not Hyde Park

Godzilla vs. Rodan Rodannadanna (The Yellow Kid), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 19:51 (twelve years ago) link

oh, that vid is sometimes titled "marquee club/hyde park", not sure why

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 19:55 (twelve years ago) link

yeah it's Marquee Club, that's the link above.

Hyde Park is a totally different show, it was outdoors iirc?

the penultimate prophets (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

actually that reminds me, sort of a sidetrack but does anyone have any recommendations for good live stuff to check out? official or bootleg, I'm easy. I haven't dug much into their live stuff.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

"Brussels Affair" from stonesarchive.com has some supersonic shit on it. Also, Perth and Sydney '73 boots are ace. Taylor fucking kills on those.

Dancing with Mr. T (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

m@tt otm that one week is a really agonizingly short amount of time to contemplate catalogs this huge and rich. but then anytime someone gives a poll a 2 or 3 week window people freak out about how they won't get to do their Letter To Cleo tracks poll until November.

some dude, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

xpost <3 <3 thank you Tarfumes!

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

xpost the hell you're not >:[

Get on that ballot, soldier. If you don't do this you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday (say, day three of results) and for the rest of your life.

Just do it fast, like ripping off a band-aid.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

yeah brussels affair is the best stones boot, that perth one is great too. lotsa stuff from 72-73 is killer. also one from Leeds 71 is sweet.

some of the stones in the park stuff is a train wreck iirc. totally out of tune satisfaction. crazy how tiny they look in that video.

tylerw, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

xpost thanks tyler!

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

yeah I like hyde park to watch, but listening is just sadface. vocals are almost nonexistent in some places

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:20 (twelve years ago) link

The El Mocambo tracks on Love You Live (Mannish Boy/Crackin' Up/Little Red Rooster/Around and Around) are loads of fun, but I haven't really liked any other live stuff I've heard by them, tbh.

Rank 'em, M@tt! 20 minutes, no apoogies, no looking back.

Whiney Houson (WmC), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago) link

NO APOOGIES!

Whiney Houson (WmC), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago) link

insane circumstances for that hyde park show -- brian jones dies two days before, hey let's break in our new guitar player in front of 250,000 people.

2nd VG's request for good live stuff to check out, vids or just audio. not at all knowledgeable abt that stuff, though i like a lot of what i've heard.

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

m@tt fwiw the distribution of track votes is so broad that your ballot really will make a difference.

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:32 (twelve years ago) link

ok y'all i'll try to do one :)

by the way just because ppl are talking about the Stones, I URGE you all to track down "The True Adventures of The Rolling Stones" by Stanley Booth which I just re-read again and I think the greatest book about rock music ever written. He's with the Stones on the whole tour that culminates in Altamont. It's just brilliant writing -- in some ways, he's a less gonzo Hunter S Thompson -- but yeah if you want the Stones as the real actual human beings they were not the myth, it's just amazing and chilling in parts....serves as bit of an elegy for an entire era....

also the paperback I have has THE BEST passive/aggressive back cover blurb:

Mick Jagger on books about the Rolling Stones - "I suppose Stanley Booth's might be somewhat interesting. At the very least, I knew Stanley Booth, and he knew me."

also, King Crimson just opened for you and blew the nonexistent roof off the joint

Whiney Houson (WmC), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago) link

I will definitely hunt down that book, it sounds great. I've heard someone else talk about it on another ilx thread maybe?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago) link

Almost forgot, the just-released Ft. Worth '78 show is great, too.

Dancing with Mr. T (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 20:39 (twelve years ago) link

yeah brussels affair is the best stones boot, that perth one is great too. lotsa stuff from 72-73 is killer. also one from Leeds 71 is sweet

I loaded down a lot of shows a couple of years back including that lot. I burned them onto CDs for my car. Great times.

About a week later I had to drive my (much) younger cousin on a long trip up the country. I happened to have Amy Winehouse's Back to Black on the stereo when I picked him up. He was sniggering at me for it, then with a flourish produced Beggar's Banquet, and was all 'time to put on some real music'. I could've let him know that if he lifted the Back to Black case he could take his pick from the half-dozen awesome boots that he'd never heard of, but I got a kick out of letting him think he was converting the square.

In retrospect it was definitely time to pull rank though.

xp At the time, I preferred Keith's singing to Mick's. But that was mainly because Mick had just put out those two crappy solo records ("Let's Work" was on MTV far more frequently than it had any right to be, which is to say, more than once), and the way he sang "competition" in "Winning Ugly" made me think, that guy there, if he doesn't stop it, man...

Can't say I envy Jagger there, prime target having to try to keep all that together (but I do really like that take of Under My Thumb, despite everything)

Relistened to Talk Is Cheap tooling around town at lunchtime. Good shit.

Not sure if I'll go as far back as the 70s on my ballot, but if I do Bitch certainly has a chance of making it.

*shakes head* I may never understand

feel a lot worse about cutting ruby tuesday and paint it black than bitch or brown sugar tbh.
