The UK title was always more sensible. If they were meant to legitimately be ninjas, they did a pretty shitty job of it.

Well, in the early Mirage issues, our band of turtle warriors were much more faithful in their adherence to the ancient art of ninjitsu, but in subsequent appearances, they simply employed a number of martial arts techniques against their increasingly-bizarre rogues gallery, without much of an attempt at achieving or maintaining ninjitsu's trademark aura of invisibility. If I were given the opportunity to speak to the foursome, I would ask them to reconsider the cavalier usage of the word 'ninja' in their self-styled nomenclature.

Foot soldiers were changes from humans to robots in the cartoon. I'm sure there was pre-internet fan backlash then.

NES version was great except for that one level where you had to defuse the underwater bombs. prob among my most frustrating childhood experiences.

I've had a few people on Facebook going absolutely bonkers over this (in a bad way), and it's crazy. The last TMNT movie got awful reviews and the franchise has always been commercial as hell so what's the problem?

It's got great music, absolutely horrible controls. If you lose Donatello/Leonardo you may as well hit reset. The underwater level gave me strife as a kid but i think after 4 or 5 tries I figured it out and it's actually pretty easy to beat once you get through it. Wading through the relentless respawning armies in the following stage, however...
