feel like the bay movie is likely to skew toward the zulli look

terrible rappin' barney rubble sounding thing (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 23:19 (twelve years ago) link

and that zulli will see zero money

whether or not there's any validity to the complaints, can't we all at least agree that professional grief being heaped upon michael bay is net gain for humanity?

TMNT FANS, RISE UP, TAKE TO THE STREETS, OCCUPY MICHAEL BAY

Thing I liked most about the first couple of movies was the connection they had to NY/bboy culture, however vague. It was like watching a live action anime about a bunch of breakdancers. Also hands up everyone who can sing the verse couple of verses of the T.U.R.T.L.E. Power rap from the 1st film....?

are eastman and laird the luckiest men in the twentieth century?
Possibly matt groening is a little luckier.

It's really irritating to me that kids are being marketed the same things their parents were 20-30 years ago. Maybe this trend's gone on for a long time but I never noticed it.

lol aren't you the world's biggest Archie stan

Sheepish handraise.

Today's children need their own pile of singular inane, commercialized shit to cherish.

Massively OTM! When current generations hijack the nostalgia of previous generations, we get Woodstock '94. And '99. Never forget.

xxpost but I thought that they don't make any scratch off TMNT? something about their deal with Nickelodeon screwed them out of the glory? or am I totally wrong

nickelodeon is hella broke right now too iirc

Also kids have plenty of their own dumb shit and I'm sure they were trying to market "the Apple Dumpling Gang: the next generation: the animated series" or something when I was young.
I have to say it is p weird working w/eighth graders & they try and school me on who the Ninja Turtles are, though.

Judging from my niece's favorite shows, look for Olivia and Yo Gabba Gabba hologram reboots in 2042

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 23:45 (twelve years ago) link

I was a huge TMNT nerd as a kid, but the only thing I'll really rep for these days is the Archie Comics series (geared more towards kids and ostensibly an offshoot of the not-so-hot cartoon) and some of the original black & white stuff.

Soggy Cheeseburgers (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 23:47 (twelve years ago) link

xxpost sometimes it's cool though - my niece's path into anime started with Robotech when she was about 10, and as her grownup Aunt and Uncle, Mr Veg and I couldn't have been more psyched to hand her the armload of dvd box sets.

The Nickelodeon sale was two years ago - first issue came out in 1984.

(Eastman stopped working at Mirage when Tundra launched c. 1991, sold all his share bar a creator interest to Laird/Mirage in 2000, and Laird bought the rest out in 2008.)

at least 'life in hell' used to be great. tbh i think eastman and laird's original comics are pretty mediocre. my fondest TMNT memories are of the arcade game.

hell yeah the arcade game- NEW and game boy iterations also p good

NES version was great except for that one level where you had to defuse the underwater bombs. prob among my most frustrating childhood experiences.

Loving this old Supes!

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:05 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe it's like there's an alien fungus that comes down and mutates the turtles.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:06 (twelve years ago) link

His suit looks like it's made of wool, which has to be nice when flying around in the upper reaches of the troposphere! xp to self

um, he's Superman

Number None, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

superman was from an alien race iirc

⚓ (gr8080), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:15 (twelve years ago) link

Superman can love wool even with super powers.

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

Why would an alien race not appreciate a versatile, insulative, and comfortable textile?

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

If the new Ninja Turtles make a point of loving wool, I'll watch this movie.

Marilyn Hagerty: the terroir of tiny town (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:19 (twelve years ago) link

Also v practical for re-entering earth's atmosphere, as wool doesn't burn (in comic book sense, not so much irl)

Smart guy, that Superman

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 03:00 (twelve years ago) link

If Superman were genuinely concerned with indestructibility, we would've woven a costume out of his own pubic hair.

(I am so, so sorry.)
