i was surprised later on to see that "Start Choppin'" had peaked higher on Billboard a year earlier than "Feel The Pain," since the latter seemed like a semi-big hit because of the video while i never really heard the former outside the parent album

Shakey, we're talking about songs bands broke through on MTV with, that you and your hipster buds were jamming to Dusted years before is kind of irrelevant
― da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 19:25 (twelve years ago) link
just fyi I have never listened to the Gin Blossoms
― the sir edmund hillary of sitting through pauly shore films (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 19:36 (twelve years ago) link
but had you heard of them before "Hey Jealousy"?

The grunge pedal is now made by digitech the parent company of dod and can be yours for 49.95 please do not all rush into the store at once

Uh oh does that count as deploying inside knowledge in a condescending way

will it give me the DGC sound? Because I want the DGC sound.

― goole, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 19:55 (twelve years ago) link
there must be some difference between mtv and college radio, let me think real hard
― ffun. (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 19:55 (twelve years ago) link
The grunge pedal is only trumped by the death metal pedal which was specifically designed not to have a knob to turn the amount of distortion down from the "all of it all the time" setting
― Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 19:56 (twelve years ago) link
Whiney hedged his bets by putting "new artists" in quotes, not sure what criteria is being used to designate "new" tbh
I have no memory of when I first became aware of the Gin Blossoms. It's possible it was earlier (Request Video - respeck knuckles) but I don't really remember.

This reminds me of when I heard and enjoyed "Hey Hey What Can I Say" on that Led Zep tribute album, Encomium and then rushed out to buy the Hootie and the Blowfish album. Um.

We've never played it live but if we do, I'm gonna see if I can get my lead singer to introduce it as 'nobody's favorite song'
