names, names.... we already had Die Doraus & Die Marinas and Palais Schaumburg.
although, to be fair, i do think of a different vibe with what i think of as 'minimal synth'.
― gnarly sceptre, Friday, 15 January 2010 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link
Stanton Miranda = in that case also equals Steve and Gillian of New Order w/ John Robie remix.
― dan selzer, Friday, 15 January 2010 04:13 (fourteen years ago) link
some weird connections just made...looking up Wheels Over Indian Trails I see that the name is taken from a peace of public art in Queens from a guy named John Fekner. Searching amazon for books on him I find mostly mp3s of all this crazy hip-hop he made through the 80s with graffiti artists and NY teenagers. I recognize the song Rocksteady from an old Porkchop mix. Porkchop's been performing freaked out acid house music as SPSS at gigs with lots of the NY minimal synth scenesters.

Does anyone know of any more stuff like the Robert Gorl "mit dir" song that kicked off this thread? I've listened to it 5 times in the past 2 days. It reminds me of Goodbye Horses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22ltlLZkFlE and I love that song.
I guess I'm looking for stuff with a little more space in the recording -- like maybe just a kick and snare, a bass synth, a tiny melody and singing. A lot of this stuff on this thread has a little bit too much going on in it for me (I like it very minimal I guess). That said the Die Doraus and Die Marinas song posted is a new favorite.

daf were basically a bass synth and drums. i really like their songs that lean further into this threads territory, this really spaced out, sometimes melancholy, minimal synth pop

but you know it's a good daf song if it has xylophone

picked this up at a flea market in france last week:http://musiconvinyl.blogspot.com/2009/07/voyage-voyage-desireless.html
supposedly the a-side was a massive hit in europe but i've never heard of it, and to be honest, it doesn't do much for me. the instrumental b-side 'Destin Fragile' has the grandiose corniness down pat though.
