in lots of pop songs the real hook is an instrumental thing or a sound

40oz of tears (Jordan), Thursday, 15 March 2012 14:49 (twelve years ago) link

this thread is getting about as dry as a hessle comp.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 15 March 2012 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Sounding a little exasperated, DVA continues: "I just needed a change, bruv – I mean, six years of something is long. Imagine you’re with a girl for six years. You know what I mean? You’d probably split up! It just gets boring. Not that the show got boring, but six years of anything is long, so you’ve got to change up your life".

haha. IMAGINE!

So shit...

baby boy loose this track, baby boy loose this track.

in other news.

I really didn't see myself being a Paul Woolford fan after so many years of well dad house but damn he's finding a vibe the last few years.

jimitheexploder, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 02:16 (twelve years ago) link

LHF album? opinions?

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

i've been enjoying woolford for awhile now, feel like the turning point was actually around 2005

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-sh8mi0cio

also really like this recent one, "can't do without"

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:58 (twelve years ago) link

although it definitely doesn't need to be 8:27 long

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:59 (twelve years ago) link

and then right after that obv he killed it with "erotic discourse"

not sure how that could every qualify as dad-house

'This is killing me: the song featured in last week's Dusk & Blackdown Rinse mix that samples The Breakfast Club - "Well, if you say you haven't, you're a prude. If you say you have you're a slut. It's a trap. You want to but you can't, and when you do you wish you didn't, right?" Anybody? Thanks.

Yeah it's now stuck in my head and probably will be all week.

viborg, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:23 (twelve years ago) link

Also, Jimmy Edgar 'For the Children'. Maybe that's more bobbins? I don't fully understand the difference.

"kook" is pretty good, what w/ a great sample, epic synth vibe and creepy "presk" vocal clip, but i still prefer "sweat" (presk & cinnaman)

presk IS killing it though, four for four on dope EPs

the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:04 (eleven years ago) link

the first four tracks of this new slugabed album are great, but then it turned into a blur of hi-fi synth-fusion to me (ie no hooks). maybe i shouldn't have tried to listen to it all at once.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

NEWFLASH - MOSCA BITES HAND THAT FEEDS

going back to '09 listening to Marcus making this weird, weird house music basically that brings in all these elements, I wanna go back to that. If you want a guitar in your track, that's cool, you can do that. Now in UK bass you cannot have guitars—that's one of the rules. You have to have 808s, big Julio Bashmore bass, a US rap sample repeated, cowbell, a little Burial garage sample and a Deadboy synth that goes "eeewwwaaooo," bending all over the place. And those are the rules now. And you do get a lot of, it's just the same old same old that I get sent. There's so many people making music now, that it's flooded.

the late great, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

Bashmore has actually been using guitar a lot on his recent stuff

I'm really psyched that DJG seems to be extricating himself from dubstep and slowly evolving into something else.

He was way too cool for the kids he was hanging out with IMO.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:02 (eleven years ago) link

Having been going over old DMZ tracks in the last few days I was wondering if it makes sense to have a Dance Partisans of the Past thread, encompassing everything from early 00's proto dubstep to cotemporary Bass, or whether assorted thread already suffice?

EDB, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:10 (eleven years ago) link

I wouldn't mind having a place to get nostalgic about my record crates.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:12 (eleven years ago) link

And I by publication I mean something with a separate editorial entity from the marketing department, no offense meant to Sonic Router or any of the other blobs out there.
