I always use jasmine rice in my burritos and I add a little butter when I cook it and ohh my gooodddd so good

my beans are v good, tho. always. i make a mean bean imho.

What do you do? I just saute garlic and onion and pepper and then add the water and soaked black beans and a bay leaf and simmer for a bit

i brown diced onions & jalapenos & minced garlic in a skillet, add tomato paste, adobo, cumin, cayenne, black pepper, let it get all nice and carmelized and sticky, and deglaze with red wine vinegar. add to simmering beans.

always. be. deglazing.

i hate bell peppers but you can use them instead, i guess.

i just buy the cuban black beans from trader joes, they're p good

does Trader Joes sell El Ebro beans?

i have never cooked dried beans before :/

i live right by some small thai and armenian grocery stores, i really need to start taking advantage of that

yeah i've never cooked dried beans before either, don't think i quite have the patience for that yet

it's... not hard.

it just takes a bit of planning bcz you have to prepare the night before. Just sort, soak, and simmer!

I still haven't mastered the art of pressure cooking. When Mom makes vats of black beans for Christmas Eve and see the little plastic tab at the top of the Hitachi going shhhhhh I get scared.

Yeah, I'm far too much an impulse cooker. It was all I could do to make a big batch of noodle salad for my lunches this week.

yeah i never know what i want to eat until...i want to eat it! i don't understand how i could plan meals a day or more in advance.

It would take considerable training to prepare something and then ... gulp ... NOT eat it.

Is that where the glass of wine comes in?

you can cook dried benas without a pre-soak, it takes longer tho. also soaking beans allows them to start germinating so they release some of the enzymes that cause gas, so soaked beens are less fart-making. #protip #farts

Yes, just make sure you drain and rinse them well after soaking.

my family has always been into cooking dried beans, it's v common in lebanese cooking. we just made some lentils this wknd!

oh, she's a sweetheart. mostly we talked about her son, who i've never seen despite living across from him for a year and a half. she says she worries about him because he barely speaks english and hasn't made friends here and stays inside playing video games all day. we also talked about bussing and biking foibles.

she has ducks that i sometimes have shoo out of my driveway.

That seems like a really good interaction about gayness.

IMO in a perfect world being gay wouldn't be totally normal and unremarkable, but it would be perfectly OK. I would love it if it were OK to acknowledge that buttfucking and dating the same sex is sort of odd - and maybe even a little funny* - but in no way a bad thing. Meh, so you do sex and love in a way that most people don't, whatever.

* As Donna Dasher in Female Trouble, sex is all about "ludicrous positions."
