i have never professed to eat out all the time, once a week at most and often not even that. i have professed to scavenge on bread and cheese and crackers and fruit and yoghurt all the time

one of my absolute favorite things to do w/ my bf is cook. shit is super fun, also it's really cool to just have nice meals at home, idk.

i've no idea how one even begins to bake chicken or indeed do anything with raw meat.

i think this is actually more crazy than eating out all the time, but i guess if you can live that way, more power to you. personally i would end up murdering someone.

there is absolutely no connection between (my) cooking and nice meals. it has never even nearly happened

lex, it's not calculus. I was only taught to cook the most basic of items years ago when I lived at home; the rest I acquired on the internet and having conversations.

Brooklyn has some cheap takeout, albeit not as cheap as it used to be.

I have cooked rice. It tastes better when others do it. Also I am doing things after work 3 or 4 nights a week -- it's why I live here -- so I can't eat dinner at home.

I'm pretty sure that the next man I seriously date I will drag into the chicken and force him to watch me boil water and butter muffins.

dang you guys are giving lex a hard time. if i lived alone i would live like a total bachelor too. not that crayzy y'all

cooking chicken/fish/steak/pork is really easy!

The trick with pork and chicken is to leave it marinating the night before -- a step that takes literally two minutes. That way you just pop it in the oven or on the stove when you return from work the next evening.

i say i didn't try very hard but i tried hard enough to learn that 100% of the time something unexpected will go badly wrong and 100% of the time i will hate the whole process even when that thing hasn't happened yet. i feel about it like i feel about public speaking - ie total terror - except i can actually visualise myself overcoming it with public speaking. in the kitchen i go to pieces and it's just not gonna be any other way ever

i live with 3 housemates, 2 of whom cook regularly and the other of whom burns porridge because she feels too much pressure while it's on the stove

oh no doubt you will burn the rice or undercook the chicken your first time. That's normal.

i mean the worst that happens (if you're cooking for yourself) is you screw up and have to eat something that's slightly not right and/or just toss everything and learn from your mistakes

today i was just recounting to my housemate the last time i tried to toss pancakes a few years ago, which ended in utter disaster*. i have not tried since

*the pancakes kept flopping limply and not going over so i tried to do it a bit harder and somehow tossed the entire frying pan :(
