I was happy to see that cross my Tumblr dashboard. Quite fine work.

its amazing btw

here is the "full" version of it (256 color, 0 lossy), but unfortunately it's not any larger:

http://hires.tpparty.com/zshirez/Cindy-Sherman-Untitled-479(FULL).gif

that's the largest that it could be, because the largest source photo of Untitled #479 that I could find is on the MoMA website: http://www.moma.org/interactives/exhibitions/2012/cindysherman/gallery/chronology/#

(that exhibition is well worth scrolling through btw, or visiting in person if you can!)

although, you know, i just doubled the size of the image anyway, up to 600px wide, even though it's going to be slightly pixelated. i try to avoid going beyond the image dimensions of the source material when i can to avoid pixelation, but in this case it doesn't look awful, and it would be nice to have a larger version:

ZS, can you do something artsy with the RCA dog's response to the music he hears from 7.17 to 7.29 here?

Hell, "riding the diamond-tipped stylus through a groove of stereo sound" at 6:30 would be pretty awesome as well.

nothing new, but i'm going to be participating in this in may: http://www.wpadc.org/exhibitions/exhbt_upcoming.html (scroll down to "Experimental Media 2012 Workshop Series")

i'm really hoping to be able to build a physical animated gif machine with three tacky gigantic dials in the center that lets the user:

- choose three animations to project onto a wall
- adjust the speed of each animation
- manipulate each animation (for example, there could be a dial that increases the opacity of a figure in the foreground of an animation and also introduces another element at the same time - e.g., a scrunchy browed ancient scientist and an overheating calculator, or whatever)

1986 tallest hair contest (Z S), Thursday, 29 March 2012 03:55 (twelve years ago) link

the part of the workshop series that will be most instructive to me is the Microcontroller Shield & Arduino sections. i don't really have much of a talent for electronics (though obv i'm trying to at least get to a basic level through doing this), but luckily i know this guy who is an epic theoretical scientist and a part time genius who has expressed his willingness to help me out. i mentioned that i was interested in arduino and he switched tabs on his laptop to show me the Arduino code that he was currently working on. *shakes head*

btw anyone near dc reading this please join me for the workshop series! they're free!

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 29 March 2012 06:26 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, ZS, this all sounds so cool. Have you been interested in video and media manipulation for a long time or has it all sort of flowed out of your initial 'making silly gifs for ilxors' phase?

emil.y, Thursday, 29 March 2012 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

i've been interested in video for a while...i did a handful of mad men edits last year, and this jeopardy one too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9f1zM7I8Z8

but tbh my what's driving a lot of my recent interest is my new gf (WHO IS AWESOME) who works actively to get into exhibitions, does video work, constantly talks about and references artists, and frequently sends me invites to shows/workshops around the city. she's so great. she's also the person that brought the Experimental Media workshop series thing to my attention. i'm excited about the idea of creating some sort of physical apparatus, because i've been thinking of trying to show a few longer form animations somewhere, but i want it to be more than just projecting it on a wall. it'd be cool if people could actually manipulate it themselves.

"my new gf"

wait what? don't tell me i need to rebookmark what's happening to our board

:) i couldn't but help but mention it a thousand times a while back, but since then i've tried to cool my jets a little

but yeah she is pretty much the best

zs, any way to make screens roughly half the size of a iphone that run gifs that people could wear as jewelry? Motion pendants strike me as a zillion dollar idea until people can get digital paper/fabric going.
