There is also a 'boring' video for the track Amber.

Really enjoying this, it's very 'Days of Mars' with added acid house revivalism, not what I expected at all.

There's something about these guys that reminds me of one of Lex's posts from last year where he was wishing for a dancier version of Emeralds. They don't quite have that depth or complexity to their sound (and heck, no Mark McGuire in the band either), but maybe this is a manifestation of that sort of way of thinking?

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 2 March 2012 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

Picked this up last night.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 2 March 2012 12:04 (twelve years ago) link

it took me a while to work out why this album massively impressed, but seemed like a bit of a drag.. it's because the second half is so much better than the first, so takes a while to get going. I only really listen from Wine onwards n/days

merked, Friday, 2 March 2012 13:10 (twelve years ago) link

it's because the second half is so much better than the first, so takes a while to get going

^ this is definitely true - think the record is possibly arranged in chronological order???

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 2 March 2012 13:14 (twelve years ago) link

y'all don't like "lover"?

psychgawsple, Friday, 2 March 2012 17:45 (twelve years ago) link

and starting the record after "pleasure"... hrm. you guys must get something completely different out of this than i do, that is far and away my favorite track

psychgawsple, Friday, 2 March 2012 17:46 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

the sounds on this album are just dazzling...like that moment when you're momentarily blinded by the sun shining off water or glass

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:34 (twelve years ago) link

four months pass...

I keep revisiting this album, or at least have been in a constant visit since seeing them live back in June. It translated well to a live act.

ten months pass...

Uh actually I guess that isn't any sort of exclusive, it's all on Youtube:

Awesome!

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:35 (ten years ago) link

Excellent.

This is sounding very deep and lustrous on first listen (big surprise I know).

Tim F, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:39 (ten years ago) link

This is sounding pretty amazing guys.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:39 (ten years ago) link

Enjoyed it a lot. There's maybe a bit of a change in tone from the last one iirc in that a couple of tracks on this one seem a bit more *serious face*, but if anything that just adds to the journey. Good record!

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:46 (ten years ago) link

Reminding me a lot of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 on first listen - or the long-form deep trance version of same (whereas Actress' R.I.P. was like the skittery sketches version).

Tim F, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:50 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I'll need some time with it obviously, but my impressions are that it's all really cut from the same sonic palette, even more than the last record.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:53 (ten years ago) link

Would make sense as the last one was a collection of 12"s

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Tuesday, 25 June 2013 13:58 (ten years ago) link

My understanding is that they're a live act in significant ways as well, so they must have a fairly circumscribed kit.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 14:10 (ten years ago) link

Awesome, briefly anticipating this.

Bought the digital download, zip file downloaded twice gives me "decompression failed" errors on multiple attempts with different unzip programs.

Plasmon, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 14:35 (ten years ago) link

The last track Elise has some great balearic vibes.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 14:38 (ten years ago) link

gorgeous on one listen

lex pretend, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 07:18 (ten years ago) link

OH MY GOD, ELISE

lex pretend, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 08:13 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it's actually insane how good this is. I love that they have seamlessly transitioned from deep (tech)house to proper deep techno whilst retaining everything that was amazing from last time.

Tim F, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 08:47 (ten years ago) link

Yeah Elise is just omg omg omg

uberweiss, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 11:06 (ten years ago) link

I had no idea this was even coming, but it makes me very happy.

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 22:21 (ten years ago) link

oh well this is lovely

working from home today and listening to this at high volume on good speakers (((((@_@)))))

even with youtube-stream-quality audio it sounds pretty great. between this and the new Kolsch full-length I'm loving life.

the digital release is out now if you want an upgrade from youtube quality http://igetrvng.com/shop/swisher-blondes/

"Elise" is gorgeous, especially at the 4:30 mark.

I'll probably order the vinyl ... Elise isn't on it though?! Ends with a different track called "Clasp" ...

dmr, Friday, 28 June 2013 16:38 (ten years ago) link

Clasp is on the vinyl tracklist twice. Maybe it's a mistake?

Filk Hollins (NickB), Friday, 28 June 2013 16:44 (ten years ago) link

moullet, Friday, 28 June 2013 16:51 (ten years ago) link

Download finally worked. This is great. "Andrew" is my favorite so far.

ah didn't notice that. you're probably right.

I emailed the label and they said that it was definitely a typ & fixed it. also MAN what a great closing track.

I am really not feeling this new one at all. Andrew and Elise are great but taken as a whole it all feels kind of mongy - like its primary purpose is for people to sit around and smoke to rather than dance.

no more or less than the debut

Should check out the Blondes RA podcast the dancefloor tip: http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=375. Maybe not quite as good as the FACT mix from last year, but Bora Bora and Swisher sound great here. They also unlock the power of Stellar Om Source and Laurel Halo for a club set.

Hmm... Just arrived at the Amsterdam show, stoked to see them play live.

MikoMcha, Saturday, 7 September 2013 19:52 (ten years ago) link

Awesome!

forevermore (a maven) (Matt P), Saturday, 7 September 2013 19:52 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, so they were really great. Oceanic. Like Arthur Russell, 90's trance ('taking you on a journey') mixes, Porter Ricks...

Played versions of stuff from the albums along with more open-ended jams. Elise was an obvious highlight.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 8 September 2013 10:52 (ten years ago) link

Would have liked to hear them tackle Wine, but no dice.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 8 September 2013 10:54 (ten years ago) link

starting to think Swisher is the best thing they've done. picked up the vinyl + digital over the weekend. it really is deep ... Porter Ricks reference is otm but they bring melody into it too.

on track 2 when it gets into that high shrieky buildup of static toward the last third of the track ... wow.

dmr, Monday, 9 September 2013 16:39 (ten years ago) link

Yeah that's amazing. I think the album is better the more stentorian it gets, even if it's just because it's difficult to top the debut in the melancholic sweeping grandeur stakes.

Tim F, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 01:27 (ten years ago) link

one year passes...

been revisiting both lps a ton this winter. "andrew" is so completely lovely
