i heartily approve of intensely pro-mr. mom sentiment

horseshoe, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

joe's article on multiple regressions is good but it doesnt actually speak to the issue i was interested in here it just suggests that their attempts to apply statistical analysis could have other variables not taken into acct which i can totally understand, i.e. the diff between rural & city drinkers

but i had never really thought abt the deadly dangers of drunk walking & hit & runs are obv common in some areas based purely on the stats the present up front before even making their argument

did m@tt make a typo when saying DJP or did he use "OH DIP" as an exclamation

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link

I choose to believe the latter

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

that was how i read it, too

horseshoe, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

yeah "Oh dip" like an exclamation! i don't take that part back

dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

yeah this does remind me of how you're totally bulletproof and incapable of being critized or made fun of in your mind

no ive clearly been made fun of here before but you literally do just make up shit sometimes, like claiming that i thought nicki minaj was good b/c she was with mizay rather than that just being a name for the era when she was at her best; in general my exp engaging w/ you on ilx is that you sort of presume the worst abt what i 'actually think' like you're constantly trying to bag on me as a dumbass or something & its kind of frustrating to watch personally, like dude, i know everyone's not as smart as you but really, i swear i'm not as stupid as you seem to think i am

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

but you act so dumb!

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

no, you presume the stupidest possible interpretation every single time

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

and get off your high horse sometimes jesus

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

it's funny how i can be as juvenile and mean as i want and you still think i'm being "superior"

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:23 (twelve years ago) link

like, nothing about 'mizay-era minaj' is dumb! its just a description of a period of her career! and you decided to read into that that i was somehow the only person on earth who associated musical output with management

which 1st off is totally untrue -- lots of people do & i'm sure there are cases where management did have an effect, but

2nd, i never made any causation argument there anyway, just observed that this was when her music was best to me.

its like u just want to beat up on me out of boredom or something which, lol ilx, but im letting you know right here that its kind of annoying

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

you guys are still friends, though, right? deej-some dude fights make me anxious.

D-40, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:26 (twelve years ago) link

the first time deej casually said "Mizay" to me like i was supposed to understand exactly what that name means was right after he declared "there's no way a dude like Lil Durk has as many actual youtube views as Bo Deal" and i was like okay man i don't have the right tunnel vision for this conversation

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:29 (twelve years ago) link

i thought the phrase "mizay era" was funny, so does j0rdan

i guess one thing that really interests me in life is how people have reasonable & unreasonable fears (well i guess no 'fear' is reasonable but let's say people will manage risks based on perceived risk w/out a real sense of perspective) so what i was wondering was whether or not ppl realize how 'dangerous' drunk walking could be or if freakonomics dudes were just blowing that up for the sake of a hook into a partic. chapter of the book. Like, perceived risks vs. actual risks is something i wonder about a lot (like irrational fear of flying when people are more likely to die in a traffic accident -- sometimes received wisdom is actually wrong! and you don't need flawed statistical analysis to prove it)

ha it's funny you brought this up cuz "you're more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash" is biased in probably very similar ways that the drunk walking vs drunk driving was
